DoggertQBones (or more commonly, Bob) is the content and community manager for mtgazone. He joined our team back in October of 2020 and has been pumping out content for us since.

Bob started his Magic journey in 2009 as a kitchen table player. He would play decks built from a friend’s bulk collection or EDH (well before it was a supported format). He had no initial interest in the competitive scene until he met Chris Kvartek and his group of competitively minded friends. Around Bob’s college days, his friend group slowly stopped playing Magic, eventually just leaving himself and Chris as the last two people looking to play competitively. Since Bob had absolutely no competitive experience (and furthermore, no natural talent), Chris knew it was going to take a significant amount of time to mold him into a player he can play competitively with.

Bob admits that he wasn’t the best student, so the lessons didn’t really start sinking until 2018 when he decided to start taking competitive magic seriously. After playing in a decent amount of events, he had his first taste of success with a 12-3 finish at a Modern GP. So close to the Pro Tour, he decided to buckle down and got more serious and was rewarded with his first Magicfest (GP) Top 8 in 2019. After a middling 9-6 record at the Pro Tour, Bob was ready to try to get onto the competitive Magic scene, but 2020 of course had other plans for everyone. Now, Bob focuses on writing articles, streaming Magic, and coaching others in an effort to both improve himself and give back to the community he loves.
If you want to keep up with what Bob’s doing, you can check him out on his Twitter, the official mtgazone Discord, or the official mtgazone twitch account.
