Adventures in the Forgotten Realms Constructed Decklists

Here are our sample decklists here to get you started, with commentary and my top 5 picks below.

$49.84

First on the list we have Monowhite. There weren’t enough small creatures to go into a dedicated Aggro shell, but the card quality is high enough for a solid midrange deck! There’s a nice mix of threats and answers that this should be a solid all around deck.

Unlike Monowhite, Monoblack has enough tools to go into a more dedicated Aggro shell. Furthermore, the card quality is also quite high with plenty of power cards like Ebondeath and Lolth to support a low curve.

AFR Constructed Monored Goblins

Surprisingly, there are enough Goblins to go in on the theme, and better yet, the deck looks very solid! Most of the AFR decks are likely to be rather clunky, so this deck focuses on speed to go under the clunky decks and punish opponents before they can stabilize.

The last monocolored deck for the list, Green has a high density of strong rares which makes making a solid midrange deck easy. This deck does lack interaction, but it makes up for it in power and speed.

AFR Constructed Boros Dragons

It’s the Dungeons and Dragons set, of course we need to see some Dragons! Boros has the highest concentration of Dragons with a whopping 14 which makes Orb of Dragonkind, Dragon's Fire, and Temple of the Dragon Queen that much more potent. This deck isn’t the fastest, but it does have enough interaction and top end to keep you alive while your Dragons crush the opponent.

AFR Constructed Rakdos Control

Rakdos has the most removal spells out of any color combination, so of course we had to go for a Control deck! This deck is looking to control the board for the entire game and then slam a large threat that can kill the opponent quickly. Considering most AFR decks are looking to be creature based, having the counter to them seems strong.

AFR Constructed Azorius Venture

Venture is one of the set’s flagship mechanics and there’s a good amount of support for it in Azorius! Although this deck lacks interaction, it has a lot of synergy and can be brutally fast given the right draws.

The second Azorius deck on the list, this version is looking to go hard control. Control the opponent’s board, slam a Planeswalker or an Iymrith, and ride it to victory. Azorius does lack the strong interaction of Red or Black, but getting access to better early game and an additional Planeswalker makes it a reasonable tradeoff.

AFR Constructed Dimir Control

More control! Like the other control decks, you’re looking to mitigate the opponent’s threats then kill them with one of your great threats yourself. Black affords you more hard removal which is a boon compared to the other colors that have to work harder to kill creatures.

AFR Constructed Izzet Dragons

The final control deck on the list. Izzet has all the Control elements of the other decks, but has a lot more early plays compared to the other decks which makes you even stronger against the creature decks. Furthermore, getting access to Orb of Dragonkind is a rather large boon for any deck with expensive spells.

AFR Constructed Orzhov Venture

The last deck of the list, Orzhov Venture was so promising I’ve actually tried it in both Standard 2022 and normal Standard! The card quality is quite high, it has good interaction, and a lot of great synergies. This should serve you well whether you’re racing other creature decks or grinding against Control.

My Top 5 Picks

Hall of the Storm Giant Art by Alex Stone
Hall of the Storm Giant Art by Alex Stone

As I said before, this event is more so on the casual side, but if you’re adamant about getting your wins, I’ll rank what I believe are the best 5 decks.

  1. Dimir Control
  2. Izzet Dragons
  3. Boros Dragons
  4. Orzhov Venture
  5. Mono Black Aggro

This is not to say the other options aren’t viable, I just think these are the best. Control seems very strong in this format as the threats like Iymrith and Mordenkainen are extremely powerful compared to the rest of the set. With that, 2/3 Iymrith decks take the top spot.

Boros Dragons is similar to the Blue decks, but more proactive and has great interaction. Finally, both Black decks are quite fast and have strong interaction making them well balanced.
