Set Details

Set Theme and Story

• Ikoria: Lair of Behemoths is set on a monster world called Ikoria and is noted to be about “building your own monsters”, featuring a new mechanic to represent this. The set is mostly designed bottom-up, but there are also some top-down individual card designs.
• An e-book will be returning for this set, after being left out in Theros Beyond Death. It is called Sundered Bond byDjango Wexler, the author of The Gathering Storm, among other works, the well-loved prequel novella to the War of the Spark saga. Read the full announcement here.
• The key art features Vivien Reid, with Mark Rosewater confirming “There is a new Planeswalker along with a couple you already know.” (source)
• On the official Wizards Play Network page that is now removed (most likely published too early), it was revealed that “a set of double-sided keyword counters” will be included in the prerelease pack.

Commander Decks

The Planeswalker decks for non-Core Sets will be discontinued for the foreseeable future and be replaced by another supplemental product. For this set, they are replaced by five Commander decks called Ikoria Commander. These cards are unlikely to come with MTG Arena codes as the most of the cards will not be for Standard or Historic play (not to be confused with Brawl).
