The first game update of 2020 is in the books, which marks the release of Theros Beyond Death and the addition of more than 250 cards to MTG Arena. The maintenance is to start at January 16, 6:45 AM PST and is expected to last about three hours to deploy the 1.04.00 game update.
Before the patch drops, make sure you have completed all your Weekly Wins, Daily Quests and Daily Wins, and level up your Eldraine Mastery as much as possible. There is also a small window between the daily reset (which is happens 1 AM PST) as well, which means you can squeeze in an extra quest and some wins. This is because it is likely that we will be getting a full reset for these tasks as we did when Throne of Eldraine was released. After the patch, players will likely have a fresh set of 15 Weekly Wins, 15 Daily Wins and 3 Daily Quests to complete.
Also consider purchasing a Mastery Pass if you are over level 45, since rewards are given retroactively and that is considered the “break-even” point. Remember you can still use our Mastery Calculator to see what level you can potentially reach before this date.
You can also preview of what else is to come in the State of the Game post from a few days ago, and we will be updating our Theros Beyond Death Set Guide.
Maintenance is now scheduled to begin at 6:45 a.m. PT and will require game downtime. Once maintenance begins, matchmaking will be disabled and players will have 1 hour to finish in-progress matches. Game downtime will begin at approximately 7:45 a.m. PT and is expected to last 90 minutes.
We will update you with more information when it becomes available, including when players are able to login and begin downloading the game update.
