  1. Slamy says:

Imagine using plaugecrafter’s familiar to give goblin chainwhirler deathtouch. Easy turn 3 I kill all your creatures and have a 3/3 deathtouch and firststrike in play.

  2. TrueMeat says:

As much as I love MH2 and jumpstart, I won’t be spending even a bent penny on this. The ‘digital only’ mechanics don’t appear to contribute to the game in a meaningful way that couldn’t already be achieved through mechanics that exist in paper (albeit perhaps only approximately) and I believe these innovations will only serve to drive MTGA further away from the paper product.

  3. Ty Shauf says:

This is no longer magic. This is hearthstone. I’m no longer interested in what mtga has to offer

  4. Tom says:

The condition “You get an emblem with ‘Whenever you draw a card, exile the top two cards of your library.’ ” seems to cause very little damage. I’d pretty much always chose that condition (except when playing against mill or when playing a combo deck that pretty much loses when combo pieces are exiled)

    • Derael says:

I mean, if you play vs mill, you will always choose “take 6”. The point is: you can’t choose whatever, you only have 3 options available out of 8.

  6. Chrysologus says:

Whoa, this is a big development. I wonder if any of these Arena-specific cards will see play in Historic.

    • DUCKmelvin says:

Fynn wants Plaugcrafter familiar to give Vorinclex Deathouch.
The only danger is if the Modern format cards coming in are too strong that they overpower the new mechanics.
I personally see all 3 new mechanics as being some of the highest power abilities I have seen.

  7. mike says:

Easiest set to collect. We already know what’s in each packet. The algorithm will always attempt to give us at least one packet we haven’t previously chosen. We have duplicate protection for all rarities (vault for C & UNC). We also get additional rares and/ or mythics for wins. Just like other sealed formats, we get no wheel wild cards. AND we get cards that CAN’T work in face to face. MTGA is on the move to a better environment.

    • Zafarion says:

I guess duplicate protection was not present in the previous jumpstart set. That’s an upgrade? Also I don’t believe the previous has some algorithm that prevents already selected packs. If it’s a new feature, thats great.

      • mike says:

Both are new. Be aware though; it doesn’t prevent already selected packets; it only gives at least one packet that was not previously selected. Depending on how aggressively you collect, you may see the same packet.

        • mike says:

I misunderstood so I may have misled others. Sorry. Specifically, I incorrectly believed that MTGA would not award duplicate IRCs until we had at least 4 of each rare. Collected 90% of mythics and rares. Then quit JS21 when I got none of the packets needed 2 of 4 times AND got gems instead of a needed IRC 3 of 5 times. Enjoyed the set’s play very much but impossible to collect it without wild cards.
