Kaladesh Remastered Release Date Confirmed November 12: Everything We Know So Far

MTG Arena’s latest Historic reprint set Kaladesh Remastered will be released November 12, 2020, combining the cards from the sets Kaladesh and Aether Revolt. The power level of Magic have increased significantly since then, but there should definitely be some cards looking to make an impact on Historic! The cards return to MTG Arena from when they were available for play in the early days of closed beta when the sets were Standard legal.

This comes three months after Amonkhet Remastered as Wizards of the Coast look to expand the format’s card pool with the goal of catching up to Pioneer and beyond to make it a truly unique format akin to Modern or even Legacy. Similarly, we should expect only a handful of cards to be excluded and the most excitement would come from the additional curated cards outside of the main two sets.

The confirmation of the release date comes from the MTG Arena November 2020 ranked season details that just kicked off today. Among the ranked event schedule, Premier Draft: Kaladesh Remastered was listed to run between November 12 to November 30, 2020.

Kaladesh Remastered Preorder

While we don’t quite know the contents of the set quite yet, we do know that the preorders for the set will be live on November 5, as per the October State of the Game. For $29.99 USD we can purchase the following bundle:

• 10 Kaladesh Remastered booster packs
• 3 Draft Tokens
• Playset (4 copies) of Aether Hub cards
• 1 Aether Hub alternate-art card style

It also appears that the bundle was accidently released for sale in the store, as some players were able to see and even purchase it already. The opening date of the item further confirms the release date.

Kaladesh Remastered Previews

For Amonkhet Remastered, six different media outlets were given the card lists to preview, along with the “surprise” card inclusions. However, some keen players datamined the card list from the MTG Arena prepatch well before this time that happened in the background leading up to the release.

In light of this incident, the October State of the Game article left a rather cryptic message which may mean that something different may be planned for this time round:

So, uh . . . big hint as to what’s coming in November! Kaladesh Remastered is scheduled to arrive next month, and since certain “archeological digs” will be able to excavate this information, we’ve decided to save you the trouble of pulling out your pickaxes.

Currently, Commander Legends previews are ongoing up until November 5 when the preorder officially hits so we will keep everybody informed closer to this date once we know more.

Kaladesh and Aether Revolt

Kaladesh is the birthplane of Chandra Nalaar, a steampunk world that does magical things through devices. The automatons, thopters, and other artifact creatures of the plane are fueled by aether. We will see the return of Vehicles, the Energy mechanic, and some really cool artifacts in these two sets. We aren’t likely to see Pioneer-banned cards like Smuggler's Copter, Walking Ballista or Felidar Guardian but there will definitely be a lot of cards players are looking forward to get their hands on right away!

Importantly for the format, we get to see more untapped dual lands. The enemy colored “Fast lands” were part of the set, but it will be interesting to see if the whole cycle will be introduced rather than leave the mana bases unbalanced (though unlikely).

There are a total of 264 cards in Kaladesh and 184 in Aether Revolt in the main sets.

Kaladesh Inventions

Amonkhet Remastered has given us 14 curated cards outside of the main sets with the likes of Thoughtseize, Wrath of God, Demonic Pact and Collected Company. 5 of them were part of Amonkhet Invocations Masterpiece Series, a special promotional paper Magic set that was included in booster packs. Wizards have done an excellent job choosing these cards, which some of them have become staples of Historic since their introduction without warping the format.

Likewise, we are likely to see some cards from the corresponding Kaladesh Inventions set! While we aren’t likely to see powerhouse cards such as Lotus Petal, Sol Ring, Mana Crypt, or banned in other formats such as Chrome Mox and Mox Opal, we are certainly excited to potentially see some more format defining (and hopefully not broken) cards for Historic to open up different deck archetypes.
