Theros: Beyond Death Previews – Drag to the Underworld, Stinging Lionfish and Archon of Falling Stars

We continue today’s previews for the upcoming Theros: Beyond Death to be released on January 16, 2020 with two spoilers – Drag to the Underworld and Stinging Lionfish!

Drag to the Underworld

Card Kingdom revealed Drag to the Underworld, a solid black removal spell to complement the previously spoiled Final Death in limited, and Murderous Rider in Standard. Other comparable cards include Bake into Pie and Murder, which do not see constructed play, but being able to cast it for two mana makes a lot of difference (Cast Down saw play) if this card was to be played in a mono black deck along with Gray Merchant of Asphodel.

Stinging Lionfish

The MTG Arena Twitter account revealed Stinging Lionfish, another card that activates its ability when you cast your first spell during your opponent’s turn. This follows from the reveal of Wavebreak Hippocamp, which looks to be a archetype for the blue and red color pairing in limited. The card itself does not look to compete with other cards in the Flash deck archetypes in existing Standard, unless we can exploit the tapping and untapping of nonland permanents somehow.

Archon of Falling Stars

MTGNerdGirl revealed Archon of Falling Stars, a solid white card for limited.
