If you have ever played Dovin\’s Acuety deck then you probably know how to play this deck.
I have missed that experience so much but we have lesson\’s and Keys to the archive to fetch cards from outside the game and we have Witness the future that is probably much better than Clear the mind. Card draw is much better as well.
The deck is pure control and if everything else fails your win condition is recycling your deck with Witness the Future.
Singleton Hullbreaker Horror helps speed up the game once we have already locked the game and is absolutely unnecessary for the win. It is very useful against creature decks though and helps against plaineswalkers. It shines against large tokens – Mordenkainen\’s pup and the elementals from Wren and Seven. They are large and cannot be Divided by zero.
Your best cards are Key to the Archive, Divide by Zero and Discover the Formula. The deck has around 27 cards that can be played as lands. Don\’t go down. You never want to miss land drops because if everything goes according to plan you will need all of those lands.
Keys are great as they ramp us and exchange your worst card for a decent card. Don\’t rush to take approach against control opponents. Sometimes despark for their keys or putrefy or even counterspell is better. You need to be in control of the game before attempting to win. Also it is crucial to have a card to discard after playing a key. Sometimes it is better not to play lessons you took from you SB and keep them to use for the key or Unexpected conversion.
Divide by zero is the single most important card against opposing Hullbreakers keeping them off the table. Also you can bounce your own spell to save from counterspell. Very important: hullbreaker can only bounce opponents spells, Divide can bounce any spell.
Sunset revelry is great against black sacrifice decks since they usually manage to keep their hand full while pressuring your life total and having creatures on board.
Otherwise the plan is to play your lands and stay alive. When drafting a card from the archives remember that you have red and black duals so you can eventually cast red and black spells even if your keys get destroyed but you don\’t have access to green without them. If you feel like tweaking the mana base to accomodate green spells you could try.
The beauty of the deck is that it has so many avenues to win. As long as your key spells haven\’t been exiled and you can loop them.
Main ways are: kill them with Hullbreaker horror; cast approach of the second sun twce; crush their spirits by doing nothing; or take all the turns looping time warp. Remeber that you can use divides to bounce your keys and replay them to get a new card from the archives.
