I was worried Bombardment might be dead after rotation, but I was happy to discover that Joint Exploration and Herd Migration do a decent enough job replacing Expressive Iteration and Magma Opus if we move from Izzet to Temur. But the real star of adding Green is Tamiyo\’s Safekeeping. Safekeeping is not only a 1 mana instant speed trigger for Bombardment, but also protects it from whatever answers your opponent might have. Don\’t rush to play it right away just to trigger Bombardment – stay in control and hold it until you need it, waiting an extra turn to start going off if you have to.
A good start with this deck involves either playing Impulse or discarding Herd Migration on turn 2, followed by either Joint Exploration or The Celestus on turn 3, followed by a Big Score on turn 4 giving you more than enough mana to deploy Arcane Bombardment on turn 5 and then start triggering it right away with your 1 or 2 mana instants. Once it starts triggering, you continue to gain card advantage while also working towards eventually recurring a Herd Migration every turn to finish the game.
The black splash isn\’t really for Rona\’s Vortex and Tear Asunder… it\’s really for the Tri-Lands. There\’s no Temur Tri-Land in standard. This matters because Herd Migration needs to see basic land types in order to create enough 3/3 Beasts to be worthwhile. Being able to kick Vortex and Asunder is just a bonus. You could potentially go for a white splash instead or as well, if you prefer.
I don\’t believe this is the final form of this deck, but rather a solid starting point. The 4-ofs feel pretty essential as 4-ofs, but the rest are more flexible. Impulse and Play with Fire would probably be my first cuts, depending on whether you\’re worried about fast or slow opponents.
