Phyrexian Assault

Mulligan aggressively. If you don\’t play a 1-drop you might as well concede.

It could probably be tweaked into a sacrifice theme or an oil theme. I suspect both of those are too slow. If there are enough cards to glue sacrificing and oil together (like Urabrask\’s Forge) then it could probably become a pretty solid midrange deck.

This deck is aggro but slower than the ones I\’m used to. But it also has more staying power. Evolved Sleeper can get big and feed you cards, Charforger also gives you cards, and Urabrask\’s Forge just keeps going no matter what.

Notes on mana slots:

1. One drops
   • I can\’t tell if Evolved Sleeper is good until I play with it. It might be really good always, it might be below average most of the time but really good in specific matchups, or it might be bad.
   • Alternatives considered:
     • Battlefly Swarm
2. Two drops
   • I\’m using Blightreaper Thallid as a stand-in right now and it\’s performing better than expected. If Gixian Recycler or Sheoldred\’s Assimilator turn out to be bad this would be a good replacement.
   • Alternatives considered:
     • Splatter Goblin (good sideboard card)
     • Toxic Abomination
     • Vraan, Executioner Thane
3. Three drops
   • It might be better to cut the 3 Charforgers for a 4th copy of PDE and Urabrask\’s Forge. But drawing 2 copies of PDE or Urabrask\’s forge would not be great, and Chargforger isn\’t bad for the stats even if you never pop the oil counters.
   • Alternatives considered:
     • Balduvian Atrocity
     • Diminshed Returner (might be better than Charforger, but the 2 black mana can cause problems and 2 bodies is nice)
     • Etched Familiar (good sideboard card)
     • Gix, Yawgmoth Praetor (feels win-more)
     • Furnace Punisher (good sideboard card)
4. Four drops
   • Not much to say. This deck can handle multiple 4-drops, and Mishra is the best. Its only weakness is that it\’s bad on an empty board, but phyrexians like coming back from the graveyared and PDE can meld on unearth (I assume).
   • Alternatives considered:
     • Archfiend of the Dross (if it loses you the game you were going to lose anyway)
     • Terror of Towashi
     • Urabrask
