Description

All right, i\’ve been running this deck for a few months now, and i think it will still be fairly good even after the upcoming rotation. I\’ll provide you with a step-by-step guide on how to make it work, and believe me, it works.

OVERALL STRATEGY:

-The core idea of the deck is getting a Stimulus Package on the field with at least 5 treasures, and then drop the MVP (a.k.a. Devilish Valet) on to the battlefield. You can then turn all your treasures into 1/1 simps in insta-speed, and if your opponent is tapped-out, it\’s GG.

-All other cards in the deck are either card draw, treasure creation or spot-removal. I\’ve been giving Broken Wings a run recently, and it did work, but you can probably change it for something you like better (But with Velomachus, Selesnya Enchantments and Sanctuary Warden running rampant, Broken Wings usually saves my ass, and if they\’re aggro, you just discard it for card draw).

-My mana base isn\’t ideal, i\’d probably toss in another Sokenzan and maybe all 4 Rockfall Vale (but as of right now, i\’d rather not give MTGA my hard earned money so easily), but with that much treasures lying around, you are not going to be Mana screwed.

-It\’s possible to win the game by turn 4, but usually it happens around 5 or 6. And remember, if your opponent has cards in hand and 2 or more lands untapped, it\’s usually better to bait out the removals and sit tight. NEVER drop the MVP until it\’s All in, otherwise you\’ll spoiler your combo (And trust me, they aren\’t waiting for this Combo).

MULLIGAN:

-2 or 3 lands are usually enough. Either a Gala Greeter or Prosperous Innkeeper are great openers, and followed by Fable, Xorn or the Face-Breaker it\’s already looking great (Usually they\’ll remove your 3 drop, but hey, that\’s one less removal for the MVP). The only 1-drops in the deck are the Goldhound (which IS a treasure) and Voltage Surge (for those red and Boros a**holes), and since Goldhound is a treasure, it\’s a great follower to Devilish Valet when Stim Pack is on play.

TIPS:

-Alright, i\’ll get into the nitty gritty right here. So, usually our focus is to get both cards in hand for the big W, but we don\’t depend on it. With cards like Goldspan and Esika\’s Chariot, not to mention the sheer amount of tokens we can generate with the Stim Pack, it\’s very possible we can get a win without ever using the combo. I\’m gonna break down how to make the best out of the cards:

Creatures-

  • Gala Greeters: A treasure generating machine, and possible life gain against aggro. With a Greeter and a Stim Pack on the board, things get awesome for you and nasty for your opponent pretty fast.
  • Prosperous Innkeeper: Life gain and creates a treasure. Great for chump-block if you\’re not facing aggro, and great to discard for draw.
  • Goldhound: Its menace and first strike are kinda useful against early game aggressors, but usually you\’ll burn it for the mana or the Surge. Unless you have a Professional Face-breaker on, then it\’s First Strike generates an extra treasure if he lands face. Remember, it\’s a TREASURE, so you can use Stim Pack to convert it into another token (so you get 2 creatures on the field for the cost of one, and that\’s what Devilish Valet is all about).
  • Professional Face-Breaker: Generates treasure, and more importantly, card-draw. Sometimes you\’ve got the Stim Pack, you have over 10 treasures, but you can\’t seem to find the Valet. Well, leave it to the Pro.
  • Xorn: Heard you liked treasures. Take another one!
  • Goldspan: Haste, flying, creates treasures, makes your treasures worth double. Just amazing. Wanna remove it? Give me mo treasures.
  • Devilish Valet: The one. The only. The superstar. Since he doubles the power with every creature, it gets REAL big REAL fast. With 4 creatures, it\’s already a 16/3 with trample, and with 5 it becomes a 32/3. That\’s usually enough, but why not get him to 1.024 power or more? Just PLEASE, keep it a secret. Don\’t discard it, don\’t drop it early (Unless EXTREMELY necessary) and don\’t waste it. Wait for the opening, either for your opponent to be tapped out or without cards, and don\’t use it if he\’s got a first or double strike defender.

Artifacts-

  • Esika\’s Chariot: Great card overall, generates creatures and when crewed you can get an extra token or treasure.
  • Bootlegger\’s Stash: Sometimes you\’ll have a whole lotta land but you need more treasures. Bootlegger can save the day, but don\’t be afraid to discard it for draw, it\’s not essential.

Enchantments-

  • Fable of the Mirror Breaker: All steps of the saga work amazing for the combo. Creature that makes treasure, discard useless cards to search for the right pieces and create an extra Gala Greater, Xorn, Goldspan, or even better, a Valet! Just amazing.
  • Stimulus Package: The butter to our bread-and-butter. Generates tokens from your insane amount of loot, at insta speed. Opponents usually don\’t see the threat it poses until it\’s too late.

Instants-

  • Seize the Spoils: Draw cards and create a treasure token. Toss away that land or late innkeepers and find the combo.
  • Big Score: What\’s better than drawing two cards and creating a treasure? Drawing two cards and creating TWO treasures.
  • Broken Wings: Pretty replaceable. Works great against angels and dragons, killing some flying Virtuosos or the unblockable enchantments, as well as Hallowed Haunting and Wedding Anouncements. But not essential.
  • Voltage Surge: Your sole removal, essential against Azorius and Boro aggro decks, but just a great removal since you can usually spare a treasure to deal 4 damage for 1 mana.

FINAL THOUGHTS:

I came up with this deck after watching CGB playing Naya when New Capenna came out, and just marvelled at the possibilities of the Vallet. It started just as a meme to see how much damage i could deal in one turn, and i\’ve gotten well over the 10.000 treshold a few times, and since nobody expects this combo, they don\’t tend to play around it. I\’ve been fine-tuning the deck ever since, and i\’ve gotten all the way to Mythic with it, and i hope you enjoy the sheer amount of power the Devilish Vallet can provide. Yes, it\’s got 62 cards, but you can remove 2 of them EXCEPT for Gala Greeters, Devilish Valet and Stim Pack. Just remember to have fun, and change the deck as you see fit, this is the best version of it so far, but i\’m sure there are ways to make it even better.
