After rotation and the loss of cards like Raise the Alarm and Venerated Loxodon. Mono White Aggro is in a strange place where it doesn’t play the traditional weenies + anthem effect strategy anymore.
The best way to play monowhite is to have your creatures act as weenies + an effect. New cards like Skyclave Apparition and Luminarch Aspirant do this to great effect as do old favourites like Giant Killer. While other cards like Selfless Savior and Sejiri’s Shelter will protect and act as a weenie or land respectively. Even Legion Angel gives you a body and a card, and card draw is something white has always lacked.
Few cards in this deck are purely offensive or singular in purpose. These cards are Stonecoil Serpent, Seasoned Hallowblade and Maul of the Skyclave. The Maul is the key to this deck, if you can get this on a Hallowblade or a Stonecoil or Basri’s Lieutenant your opponent has to answer that threat or you will win. Hallowblade in particular is a get recipient of the maul as he can protect himself from destroy effects.
The deck is rounded out by Basri Ket and Basri’s Lieutenant. Basri himself gives +1 counters and indestructible which is a great asset to your attacking force, and his -6 is an incredible ability that I’ve been able to reliably execute in Best of 1 in the post ban format. It also puts a pressure on control decks which would otherwise try to drag the game out. The Lieutenants vigilance not only makes him a great Maul wielder, but his ability synergies with with the Aspirant, Stonecoil and Basri’s +1 and protects you from board wipes and destroy effects.
It’s been really rough playing Mono white for a while since we lost Loxodon, but I was able to start climbing again in the post ban meta. I am confident this deck has the tools needed to beat any deck archetype reliably in Best of 1.
