Historic Pauper doesn\’t often come around, but when it does, this is the deck I usually turn to. I have been using a variation of the soul sisters deck since the first Historic Pauper event appeared and the deck has seen a healthy evolution since that time, resulting in us now having access to 3 soul sisters options plus 1 additional pseudo-sister. We also have our equivalent of Ajani\’s Pridemate in the form of Celestial Unicorn. If this creature has a chance to just gain a little bit bigger it will quickly get out of range of any red damage spells our opponent might be running.
One of my additions which you probably won\’t see other lists running is the Anointer Priest tokens package. Anointer priest is a pseudo sister, gaining you a life whenever a token enters the battlefiend under your control. He also has embalm, meaning that not only can you bring him back from the grave if he gets killed or you have to chump with him, but he will also trigger on himself entering as a token copy as well! I pair priest with raise the alarm which is just the most efficient token generator we have and at instant speed is possible to ambush an aggressive opponent.
The recent addition of Heron of Hope gives us a great way to really get way ahead of our oponents\’ life totals and the air package is freshly complemented by one of the best common creatures in any recent standard – Inspiring Overseer – a 2/1 flier for 3 that draws us a card and gains us a life! Finally, I also added Sunblade Samurai and Era of Enlightenment from NEO which both help us to get our land drops while gaining us some life, with the option on another creature on the board later in the game.
I feel like this deck is now in a really great spot. Given the propensity of red aggro and burn decks in these types of BO1 events, this deck is a really good option for slamming on their breaks and putting yourself into a position where you just can\’t lose to them.
