Introducing the MTG Arena Zone Championship Series

Readers, Magic players, and members of the MTG Arena Zone community, it is our pleasure to announce that through our new esports organization, DotGG Events, we are launching a new line of digital tournaments: The MTG Arena Zone Championship Series!

The Big Picture

The MTGA Zone Championship events will offer prizes in both cash and gems, to be paid promptly following the end of each event, but that’s not all – we have partnered with MTG Melee through the Organizer Program, allowing us to offer invitations to official Wizards of the Coast tournaments, including the February Arena Qualifier Weekend and even the Kamigawa: Neon Dynasty Championship!

The first season of our new competitive offering begins on December 28, 2021, and will run until further notice. Currently, the schedule is set for the month of January including events in the Historic and Alchemy formats – click here to view the calendar. Each week will contain three separate events: two five-round bye events on Tuesdays and Thursdays, and a $1K Preliminary Set Championship Qualifier (PSCQ) that will take place on the following Sunday.

In addition to the $1,000 US prize pool, each Sunday PSCQ will earn players who can finish with an X-2 record or better an invitation to the culminating event of the season, the Set Championship Qualifier (SCQ) on Sunday, January 30. The winner of the SCQ will receive an official invitation to the Kamigawa: Neon Dynasty Set Championship in addition to their cash prize. The rest of the Top 8 will earn another chance to compete for a Set Championship invite by qualifying for the February Arena Qualifier Weekend.

We could not be more excited to be offering a path to the Set Championships for our community, and we hope you will join us in these early events as we get our Championship Series off the ground. We have big ambitions for these competitive events, and if successful, we aim to expand our offerings to include leaderboards, membership with perks, merchandise, and more. You can read more about DotGG Events and the future of our organization over on the DotGG website:

Tournament Rules:

1- All players must conduct themselves in a respectable manner online. No form of harassment will be tolerated.

2- We will operate under the 3/10 rule. If you don’t check in within 3 minutes of the round timer starting, you will receive a game loss. If you don’t check in within 10 minutes of the round timer starting, you will receive a match loss.

3- All players must submit decklists 5 minutes before the tournament begins. If your decklist is not submitted, you will be dropped from the event.

4- No intentional draws are allowed. In the event of a match going beyond the round timer, the in game Arena clock will be used to determine the winner.

5- All players must be 18 years or older. In the future I hope to allow minors to play with parental/guardian permission, but this event won’t have that yet.

6- Players must be available in Discord and melee for communication with event organizers. This is so we can be available for help during a match and establish communication about prizes.

7- Good luck and have fun!

Prizes will be paid out within 14 days of the event.
