MTG: Arena Announcements, September 29, 2021

Today is that day that Wizards of the Coast publishes their once-weekly MTG Arena Announcements, where they give us an update on everything that’s coming up for the client. As always, we’re going to give you a quick summary of the major points in the announcements. Let’s get into it!

October Qualifier Weekends

Before each Set Championship, Wizards offers players who are highly ranked in Mythic on MTGA a chance to earn an invitation to compete. The upcoming Innistrad Championship takes place on December 3-5. Two qualifiers for the event will be taking place in October: the first on October 9-10 and the second on October 30-31.

The format for the first qualifier weekend will be Phantom Sealed Deck, while the second will feature Historic Constructed. For interested players, make sure you check out the official Qualifier Weekend page on Wizards’ website to ensure your eligibility for the event.

Midnight Hunt Quick Draft Arriving October 1st

Although Midnight Hunt regular drafts have been live for a while now, the Quick Draft format will be added this Friday. In Quick Draft, players draft against bots and then compete against other players – much like how all drafts used to work on Arena.

Fun and Games Based on World Championship XXVII

The MTG World Championship is right around the corner, set for October 8-10. This year, Wizards is running some special events for Arena players to take part in the festivities.

The first of these is the #FindYourChampion event, where you can select the player you think will win the Championship and receive prizes based on how well your chosen player performs. Check out the Magic.gg page for the Championship to register your choice. Below are the prizes you can win if your chosen player places in:

  • 1st place: Magic World Championship trophy pet and sleeve, plus six rare individual card rewards (ICRs)
  • 2nd place: Magic World Championship sleeve and four rare ICRs
  • 3rd–4th place: Magic World Championship sleeve and two rare ICRs
  • 5th–16th place: Magic Championship sleeve and one rare ICR

Next, the Champion Showcase event will run from October 8-11, and will allow players to compete against each other in best-of-one matches using the decklists submitted by the Championship competitors. You can play as many times as you like and switch decks at any time. You will win 1,000 XP each from your first and second wins, and the third win will earn you an exclusive Trophy sleeve:

The entry fee is 500 Gold or 100 Gems, and you play until four wins or two losses. See below for the reward structure:

  • 4 wins: 600 gold + 1 rare ICR + 2 uncommon ICRs (5% to upgrade)
