2021.08 Patch Notes – Jumpstart: Historic Horizons Game Update

The full patch notes for MTG Arena that went live on August 24 has been released, and additional bug fixes since the update due to the backend changes (some bugs still remain at large). As of now, you can access the Jumpstart: Historic Horizons event and craft the new cards that comes with it!

The event is not shown on the main page of the client, so select from the Play menu. To search for the new cards make sure the filter is set to “Historic” and type “e:j21 or e:mh1 or e:mh2” in the search field.

For further information about the update and upcoming events, read this week’s announcement, and remember to report any issues directly to Wizards of the Coast Support:

  • We are continuing to work on additional fixes to release soon

Patch Notes – 2021.08

Game Update Highlights

  • Jumpstart: Historic Horizons event available Aug 26th – Pick 2 packets from options like Slivers, Madness, or Squirrels, get a deck full of powerful new-to-Arena cards, and smash!
  • Historic Brawl queue – Pick from the full range of Historic commanders and build a 100-card deck in this fan-favorite format.
    • We have also removed the deck size restriction on Brawl decks in Friendly/Direct Challenges. You can now play with decks of anywhere from 49-249 cards against your friends (including mismatches if that’s your thing).
  • With this release we are making a large number of back-end changes. These shouldn’t have player-facing impact, but there’s a higher chance than normal for some bugs to slip through. We will be monitoring and working aggressively to catch those and respond quickly.
  • Account Conversion – As part of the back-end changes we are making with this release, all player accounts will need to go through a conversion process before they can log in. This happens automatically and behind the scenes, but can sometimes encounter errors. If this happens to you, please contact customer support.

Notable Bug Fixes

  • Fixed an issue where Thallid Omnivore wasn’t gaining life correctly.
  • Xanathar, Guild Kingpin will now properly give you priority for an instant/flash spell on the top of the opponent’s library.
  • Fixed a bug that prevented the Gelatinous Cube sleeve from properly wiggling & jiggling outside of gameplay.

  • Jumpstart: Historic Horizons arrives August 26th
  • Updated the “Suggest Lands” logic for 100-card decks to add 40 cards
  • Task bar now alerts when players receive social messages while the game does not have focus
  • With rotation coming soon, text has been added when buying packs or crafting cards that will rotate soon to remind players about this
  • In preparation for Rotation/Renewal’s first mobile release, we improved the positioning of text strings for all languages on the Profile screen
  • Friendly Brawl now available in the deck builder
  • We’ve removed the tweaked cards from the Mirror Mirror event

  • Improved the UX on mobile around targeting offscreen cards
  • You can now right click cards anywhere, including on the stack and in hand, and view the printed text. Want to know what an Overload spell does when not overloaded? Now you can find out.
  • Cards with perpetual changes, when right clicked, have the option to view perpetual card, instead of printed card. We wanted to make sure you’d know what the card would look like if it changed zones or lost effects, and including perpetual changes seemed most likely to be accurate.
  • Perpetual effects are indicated with purple text, and to make sure the cards pop in situations where you don’t expect changes, the title text is also changed to purple.
  • When assigning a group of blockers, clicking on a creature that is already blocking another target, unassigns it and adds it it the group. When assigning a group of attackers with more than one potential target, clicking on an already assigned attacker unassigns it and adds it to the group. Previously, it would have unassigned it, and required a second click to add it to the group.
  • This release has cards from Jumpstart: Historic Horizons in it.
  • By the skin of our teeth we got the count in for Delirium and I am thrilled.
  • We now correctly bold the keyword before an ability, but none of the text past that.
  • The following abilities have been added to the list of abilities that only display once, regardless of how many times a permanent has gained them: Fear Forestwalk Islandwalk Swampwalk Split Second Rebound Shroud That’s a lot of abilities!
  • Player avatars now have highlights for Proliferate.

Bug Fixes

  • Fixed an issue where escaping Expressive Iteration with Underworld Breach would allow you to play the cards used to pay for the escape cost.
  • Vizier of the Menagerie was (inappropriately) colorwashing the back sides of MDFCs with creatures on the front. Well no longer!
  • Fixed a softlock caused by manually tapping Cascading Cataracts for five mana while Mirrari’s Wake is in play.
  • Adjusted text color on depth art cards that roll a D20 so that all outcomes are equally visible.
  • Fixed a bug on mobile platforms where the social icon could overlap with “View Battlefield” in some cases
  • Fixed an issue that was preventing cards that care about paying with snow mana from having the “Pay with snow” button to confirm snow is being used.
  • Fixed a bug where, in some cases, the game clock would not show the proper warnings at low time
  • Fixed a bug where hovering over Class cards when opening packs was inconsistent
  • Cleaned up the animation on opponent’s die rolls when they roll multiple dice, to make sure it’s clear which die is being used.
  • Fix a bug that could cause card text to disappear when dragging cards in the horizontal deck builder
  • Fixed an issue where on some mobile device aspect ratios, Library, Graveyard and Exile were not displayed in the correct order.
  • Added a Phyrexian symbol to the hanger for black Phyrexian mana.
  • Fly, You Find a Cursed Idol, and Acererak now have venture badges, as they should.
  • Fixed a bug with the French translation for Fracture. Nous sommes désolés! (pour la deuxième fois)
  • Fixed multiple other translation errors on cards, particularly in Japanese
  • Fixed an issue where “View Printed Card” wasn’t displaying in Japanese for Japanese style STA cards.
  • Fix a bug where the Mastery Pass expiration message could disappear
  • Fixed a rare bug where creating token copies of Valentin with Hofri would cause the match to complete unexpectedly.

Do you have any idea about daily wins and are new changes documented anywhere?

Seems like reward distribution has changed, and resetting is working different than normal. My countdown calculator (when wins reset) is counting to same time than before, but at that time wins are not reset. They do get reset later each day, but I am not sure when.
