Patch Notes – 2022.15.0 – Streets of New Capenna

Game Update Highlights

  • Streets of New Capenna is now released!
    • New packs (now buyable with gold) and Mythic Boosters are available in the store
    • A new Mastery Pass is now available (including new avatars from each of the 5 families)
    • New draft and sealed formats are available in Events (including reworked rewards for Traditional Draft to support Arena’s new Premier Play)
    • New packets are now in Jump In! (Including the first three-color packets)
    • New cosmetics are now available in the store (as well as several returning avatars)
  • Explorer is a new format now available on Arena! It includes all of the cards legal in Pioneer that are on Arena and will be managed to match tabletop as closely as possible. It features all of the queues, constructed events, and other features you’ll find in Standard, Alchemy, or Historic.
  • Deck limit increased to 100 (from 75)
  • Your current vault progress is now always visible. Mouseover or tap on the wildcard display in the main nav bar to see it
  • Players can now open boosters in any amount from 1 to 10 at once – if you have 5 boosters you can open all 5.

Notable Bug Fixes

  • Fixed a bug that prevented the styled versions of rebalanced cards from being used as commanders in Brawl
  • Addressed multiple issues that got some players stuck in the Color Challenges. If you’ve been blocked, please try again! (And, if problems persist, please contact Customer Support)
  • Fixed a bug that caused some larger avatars to display smaller than intended on the matchmaking screens
  • Fixed a rare bug where disconnecting while drafting (even invisibly) could fail to reconnect you to the draft properly, creating odd errors

Upcoming MTG Arena Events

Additional events added to MTG Arena. Read the MTG Arena Weekly Announcements to learn more!

General

  • All Streets of New Celestia pack SKUs can now be purchased with gems or gold
    • We will be extending this across older sets soon
  • Revised the Deck Details to better display information, especially counts of card types
  • Playblade > Events Tab – now has Headers, and brief descriptions for Limited and Constructed
  • Alchemy packs in the store now say “N Alchemy Pack(s)” instead of just “X Pack(s)”
  • A best-of-three Tournament Explorer mode has been added to Direct Challenge
  • Cleaned up options format filter on Decks scene. Now also includes Explorer, and Brawl includes both Standard and Historic variants
  • The tiles on the Events section of the Play Blade now show which events the player is currently in
  • Profile Default tags on the Cosmetics screens now have a “Profile Default” tool tip
  • You can now find credits for the current Arena team in the Learn More menu

Gameplay

  • We’ve updated how we present count badges for cards with abilities that care about having “at least” some number.
    • Now, on the battlefield you’ll see a highlight on the border which grows as the count gets closer. Once it crosses the threshold, the whole badge lights up.
    • In hand and while mousing over, you’ll actually see the fraction for an even clearer communication of where the card stands.
  • Cards with modal abilities that only trigger once per turn now grey out the abilities that have been chosen.
  • We’ve updated land frames such that when a land has been modified to tap for exactly two colors, we now use a two color frame to make it clearer what they can tap for.
  • Autotop is now better at understanding if a target-dependent discounted cost refers to a valid target. In practice, this means you won’t be offered as many stops where you go “I can’t actually use that.”
  • In many cases, cards on the stack that have alternative or optional additional casting costs will now show that cost greyed out if it wasn’t paid, to make it clearer how the card will behave.
  • We changed the way right clicking a card to “examine” it renders, but it’s really subtle and most people probably won’t notice. You will though, because you read patch notes.
  • Added icons for Must Attack, Must Block, and Must Be Blocked.
  • Improved icons for Can’t Attack and Can’t Block.

Bug Fixes

General

  • Fixed a rare bug that could occur when rapidly selecting cards in a draft, leading to a card appearing to be missing from the pack
  • Fixed issue with special characters in screen name that prevented match creation.
  • Fixed a bug where players with no emotes beyond the standard ones could get into a state where they lost all of their emotes
  • Fixed a bug that caused imported Historic Brawl decks to default to the Friendly Brawl format
  • Fixed a bug that caused the “Recently Played” header to not localize properly
  • Fixed a bug that caused some languages to not properly show in their native language when changing languages in game

Gameplay

  • Targets in a player’s own graveyard generally don’t have cold targeting anymore. Now you don’t get confirmations when messing with your own cards in the yard.
  • Fixed an issue where Stensia Uprising was triggering on 13 or more, instead of exactly 13.
  • Mousing over Sanguine Brushstroke now shows the rebalanced version of Blood Artist (since that’s the version it conjures).
  • Fixed an issue where Mindlink Mech could get additional bonuses by being crewed multiple times if the creatures crewing it had been modified (little m, not the mechanic).
  • Cards with special cast permissions that cost life now correctly show the normal Mana cost when moused over, and 0 while castable.
  • Aftermath cards with perpetually reduced costs now display those costs correctly while in the graveyard.
  • Addressed a long delay on the post-match screen for direct challenge matches. You’re welcome, Gladiator.
  • The multiplier for duplicate abilities was always showing up in black, instead of matching the rest of the text. This has been fixed.
  • Fixed an issue where mana with a restriction, when left floating by Leyline Tyrant, would lose its restriction after several turns.
  • No one was playing Tezzeret, Cruel Machinist, and if they were, they weren’t mutating over the face down cards he made with his ult, but there was a bug with that, which has now been fixed.
  • Fixed an issue where opponent’s sticker emotes would briefly appear upside down.
  • I can’t imagine anyone ever noticed this, but Fable of the Mirror-Breaker was making an AFR treasure token instead of a NEO treasure token. It’s been fixed.
  • Reconfigured creatures sometimes moved to the artifact row when they should have moved directly to being attached. It’s been fixed and our long national nightmare is over.
