Brews From Scratch: Historic Collected Conjuring Mill

Hey everyone!

I’ve had feedback from a number of people saying they’d be interested in seeing the deckbuilding process rather than just the final result, so I’ve been doing a series over on the MTGAzone Youtube channel called Brews From Scratch, where I record myself building a new deck from the very beginning and explain my thoughts as I go. This is the fourth installment in the series, and this time I’m building Grixis Collected Conjuring Mill in Historic.

I’ve been thinking about this deck for awhile now, mostly because it gets to use one of my favorite cards – Collected Conjuring. Collected Conjuring is just Collected Company for sorceries, and since most of the mill cards are sorceries, this shell feels like it can have enough potential.

Furthermore, with Mesmeric Orb and Glimpse the Unthinkable as relatively new additions to Arena, it seems very reasonable to mill people out relatively quickly.

While I don’t think this deck is going to be tier one, it played out pretty well! There were a lot of great synergies in the deck between Collected Conjuring, See the Truth, and Founding the Third Path which felt great. Furthermore, Glimpse the Unthinkable and Mesmeric Orb performed extremely well too easily making this the most competitive mill deck I have ever played on Arena.

I ended up playing five Constructed events with the deck and went 4-1 twice, 3-2 twice, and 2-3 once for some pretty middling results. For what it’s worth, some of my opponents happened to be playing 150-200 card decks, which normally wouldn’t be an issue, but is obviously a problem for a mill deck as it left me with no real way to win. Of course that’s not going to happen often, especially in competitive queues, but it happens!

Overall, I think the deck is a ton of fun that has solid potential and the strength to beat tier one strategies.
