Upcoming MTG Enthusiast Code_Halcyon making a first appearance, I’ll be with you today with the banned and restricted announcement -September 23, 2024.
Commander:
Dockside Extortionist – Today’s ban theme are resources. You get most treasures equal to at least all the mana rocks in play and get ahead of every player and maybe gain yourself a big target behind your back, or maybe kick in midgame with so many treasures and combo off of it. a two mana drop that can quickly change the scales in the game it’s a synonym of enabler this little guy, Dropping dockside on the board, making your pod overreact was really fun. This little goblin will be missed.
Nadu, Winged Wisdom – Nadu is being targeted just by being guilty of bad design, has already been dropped from other formats, so it seems only logical commanders turn to take it out, it has really problematic win conditions or just fizzles some spells resolutions even with a couple creatures on the board with a Lightning Greaves gets access to a tons of cards from the top of your library, so it seems WotC wants to keep a simpler play experience.
Jeweled Lotus – Made a first appearance on Commander Legends as a fan favorite to ditch your commander early on, ahermm… K'rrik, Son of Yawgmoth, or maybe the little guys to make it happen as soon as turn one is frightening, a big hit to that confidence, the sad thing here is that this card despite being legal in Legacy and Vintage its only useful in commnader, so being banned today transforms it into a keepsakes of good times.
Mana Crypt– This is a banned and restricted big hit for the manarocks team, 0 mana cost cheat in rock that gives you 2 colorless mana another enabler for the early turns pair it turn one with Ancient Tomb and cast your big Thran Dynamo and keep dropping mana rocks for that turn three Eldrazi commander. Big enabler early in the game but a big drawback drawing a shocking rock in the late turns of the game.
Today’s ban is easily understood as a mana resources balance with a splash of Nadu being left off nowhere to be played, these are things often talked about in players tables where cards are too efficient or precise at the right time and being regarded as too convenient.
Before saying goodbye I wan to cast an anti-counter spell protection on you all.
Code_Halcyon fades out.
