New Leaks Reveal Art From Kamigawa: Neon Dynasty

Way back in August, Wizards of the Coast announced each of the Premier sets that would be coming to MTG in 2022 during the Magic Showcase 2021. Since then, while we’ve had information about the “joke set” Unfinity and a whole new format has arrived on MTG: Arena, we haven’t heard much about the upcoming Premier sets.

Thanks to some leaks that started appearing on social media yesterday, we can now check out some new art and product packaging from the first of the upcoming sets, Kamigawa: Neon Dynasty. Neon Dynasty doesn’t release until February 18, 2022, but in the meantime we can ogle some of this beautiful promotional art.

Kamigawa: Neon Dynasty WPN Store Poster

For each upcoming set, Wizards of the Coast distributes posters to local game stores who are a part of the Wizards Play Network. Now, we get the opportunity to check out the poster for Neon Dynasty well ahead of schedule. The poster, which features a colorful, pink-accented character in full samurai armor, has players excited for the return of the Samurai creature type to Magic.

It’s possible we could also see the return of related mechanics from the original Kamigawa block, such as Bushido and Ninjutsu.

We don’t know if the set will actually include either or both of the classic mechanics, or if it will have mechanics that are all-new. However, it seems clear with this kind of promotional art that Samurai will be returning to MTG in some form and will likely be featured heavily in Neon Dynasty.

Kamigawa: Neon Dynasty Bundle Art and Packaging

Leaked from Amazon, the Kamigawa: Neon Dynasty Bundle box art shows a female-presenting figure clad in gilded armor. Over on Reddit, many players speculate that the character pictured in this art is actually The Wanderer, a mysterious character who first appeared in War of the Spark.

We know hardly anything about The Wanderer, but Wizards teased from the very beginning that we would eventually learn more about her character. While there’s no confirmation that this character is her, it seems likely that Neon Dynasty may finally reveal some details about the shady planeswalker with no name.

Kamigawa: Neon Dynasty Collector Booster Display Art and Packaging

Finally, we’ve got a (slightly grainy) image of the art and packaging that will represent the Neon Dynasty Collector Booster boxes. It’s a bit hard to see from the picture, but the art appears to depict a robotic, samurai-looking creature riding on what seems to be a motorcycle or similar vehicle.

The story of Neon Dynasty takes place thousands of years in the future from the last time we visited the Kamigawa plane, so the motorcycle makes sense given that Wizards has teased a cyberpunk-style setting. Crazy, high-tech machines are nothing new to Magic – just look at Mirrodin. Even still, some players might find the futuristic aesthetic somewhat off-putting.

We’ve still got quite a ways to go before the official spoilers will kick off for Neon Dynasty, but this sweet art might help keep our cravings at bay while we wait – or maybe it will fuel them harder than before! We’ll continue being vigilant for any additional information that comes out regarding Kamigawa: Neon Dynasty and all of the other upcoming MTG products.
