
Magic: The Gathering 2022 Release Schedule

Magic: The Gathering has announced an update to the release schedule for 2022, including more details on the Universes Beyond sets later on in the year! While not all of them applies to MTG Arena directly, here is everything we know so far. For a full breakdown of the remaining 2021 releases and 2023 and beyond, check out the announcement article:
Main Sets

In 2022, Magic: The Gathering will be returning to four Standard sets per year, with rotation happening with the release of Dominaria United. For more information on Standard rotation, check out our dedicated guide.
Kamigawa: Neon Dynasty
- Release date: February 10, 2021
- Available in MTG Arena: Yes

The feudal past of Kamigawa sets the stage for the far-off future we return to with Kamigawa: Neon Dynasty, more than 1200 years after the original story. Keito is one of the new planeswalkers, a cyber ninja. The designers have taken some design elements from the first block and meshed them with science fiction elements, featuring all-new gameplay mechanics.
Streets of New Capenna
- Release date: Q2, 2022
- Available in MTG Arena: Yes

Streets of New Capenna takes place in a new world: An urban city setting with special significance to Elspeth. The city is built by angels but now run by the five three-color demon crime families, featuring their own keyword and gameplay style.
Dominaria United
- Release date: Q3, 2022
- Available in MTG Arena: Yes
The release of Dominaria United will fittingly celebrate Magic: The Gathering’s 30th anniversary, as a fan-favorite world that kicked off one of Magic’s greatest stories and high-fantasy settings.
The Brothers’ War
- Release date: Q4, 2022
- Available in MTG Arena: Yes
The story continues in Dominaria with The Brothers’ War, where Magic’s famous brothers – Urza and Mishra – is returning to settle the score. What started as a feud between the two powerful brothers erupted into an all-out war that set into motion the future of the plane and Multiverse itself. Through the lens of Dominaria’s locations, characters, and victims of the conflict, we’ll see a plane-spanning conflict escalate with artifacts, giant mechs, and beyond.
Supplementary Sets
Innistrad Double Feature
- Release date: Early 2021
- Available in MTG Arena: TBA


Innistrad: Double Feature combines curated cards from Innistrad: Midnight Hunt and Innistrad: Crimson Vow to create an unique draft experience featuring special theatrical (horror movie) art treatment on every card.
Unfinity
- Release date: Q2, 2022
- Available in MTG Arena: No


Magic’s fifth silver-bordered “un” set will take place in a fun space carnival setting. The set will contain its iconic science fiction-themed full-art basic lands and shock lands in both Draft and Collector Booster packs.
Commander Legends: Battle for Baldur’s Gate
- Release date: Q2, 2022
- Available in MTG Arena: No


Focusing on the city of Baldur's Gate and building on the Commander-first gameplay of 2019’s Commander Legends, Commander Legends: Battle for Baldur’s Gate brings in iconic characters, new mechanics, more flavorful spells from D&D, plus Commander Legends-style foil-etched legendary creatures – all packed into an even greater social experience.
Double Masters 2022
- Release date: Q3, 2022
- Available in MTG Arena: No


Double Masters in 2022 will also come with two foil cards and two rare or mythic rare cards in each Draft Booster with even more powerful reprints and a multicolor draft focus.
Jumpstart 2022
- Release date: Q4, 2022
- Available in MTG Arena: TBA


Jumpstart 2022 comes with a new-to-Magic card in every pack, dozens of themes to mix and match for fun with plenty of reprints.
Universes Beyond

Universes Beyond is a “sub-brand” of Magic: The Gathering that exists in addition to, and alongside, the regular line of products (more information from Wizards). The sets featured in this series consist of products such as Secret Lair, Commander decks, and even make their way into MTG Arena!
Warhammer 40,000
- Release date: 2022
- Available in MTG Arena: No

Magic meets Warhammer 40,000 with four Commander decks featuring new art, new cards, and powerful reprints.
Fortnite
- Release date: 2022
- Available in MTG Arena: No


Fortnite will feature two special Secret Lair drops consisting of reprints of this popular battle royale game by Epic Games.
Street Fighter
- Release date: 2022
- Available in MTG Arena: No


Magic will be joining Street Fighter’s 35th anniversary with its own Secret Lair drop, featuring the fighting game’s iconic characters as mechanically unique cards. This includes the likes of Chun-Li, who will appropriately have a multikicker ability.
The Lord of the Rings: Takes of Middle-Earth™
- Release date: 2023
- Available in MTG Arena: Yes

Lord of the Rings franchise will be making its way to Magic: The Gathering as a set designed for booster draft. The cards will be legal in Modern, as well as Historic.
