Mark Rosewater’s Commander Legends: Battle for Baldur’s Gate Teaser

It’s been less than two weeks since the release of Streets of New Capenna, but it’s already time for us to get ready for the release of the upcoming Commander Legends set, Battle for Baldur’s Gate. Set to release on June 10, 2022, official spoilers start next week on May 17.

This standalone set has been designed for limited play (sealed and draft) and will be legal in constructed Eternal formats such as Legacy, Pauper, Vintage, and (most importantly) Commander (EDH). While this product is not directly applicable to MTG Arena, Wizards of the Coast have already announced that Alchemy Horizons: Baldur’s Gate (meaning that it will be Alchemy and Historic legal) will be released some time on July 2022 as a half-way point between the next Standard set, Dominaria United (which also signifies rotation).

It has not been specified how the cards will translate over: “bringing hundreds of new cards to MTG Arena and launching with everything you’ve come to expect from full set releases—including a Set Mastery, Draft gameplay modes, and more.”

In the meantime, MTG Head Designer Mark Rosewater has published a collection of teasers about Battle for Baldur’s Gate on his blog. Rosewater has made a tradition of writing a list of things that players can expect to see in a set just before the preview season starts. Today, we’ve got some interesting bits of information to take away from Rosewater’s post concerning the next Commander Legends set:

As always, MaRo’s teaser is chock full of interesting details about the set and there are a lot of information that catches the eye!

For those not in the know, there has already been a large series of leaks (beware spoilers) that confirms a lot of these teasers. A TikTok user posted videos of them opening some Collector Booster packs and claimed to have got them from a friend that works at a card producing company. If curiosity gets the better of you, you can see the associated leaks below:
