Hi! I am Vertyx, and I would like to welcome you to my Mythic Decks of the Week article for the third week of August 2023! I will go over the most interesting decks that made it to Mythic on MTG Arena last week. We are slowly moving to the end of the month which means end of the ranked season!
Explorer Izzet Artifacts Combo by Michael Louis
First deck to take a look at are Explorer Izzet Artifacts Combo by Michael Louis!
This deck maxes out on a bunch of artifacts to create a strong shell that is also able to win the game with a combo including some of those cards! The deck starts of as a rather fast Izzet deck that is full of cheap artifacts like Ornithopter and in combination with Springleaf Drum or Moonsnare Prototype it lets you cast some of the more expensive cards earlier! In the mid game you got some enablers like Third path Iconoclast, Sai, Master Thopterist or Emry, Lurker of the Loch so you are able to create more value with your artifacts! Before we get to the combo you also got Experimental Synthesizer and Reverse Engineer so you are able to find the combo pieces easier.
The main part of the combo involves Karn, The Great Creator, because he is able to find you all of the combo pieces thanks to its -2 ability. The combo includes Aetherflux Reservoir, Paradox Engine, Ancestral Statue and a few of the mana producing artifacts so you are able to recast ancestral statue as many times as you want! When you manage to achieve that you are able to gain infinite life with Aetherflux Reservoir and finish the opponent with its activated ability
Historic Yorion Gates by kplers_
Lets go take a look at Historic Yorion Gates by kplers_!
Judging from the name, this deck is centered around gates from the ravnica block. Most of the gate decks share the same gameplan and this one is not an exception which means that the deck plays a bunch of ramp like Circuitous Route, A-Navigation Orb or Primeval Titan to get the most gates out on the battlefield as fast as you can. Of course you need some ways to slow the opponent down which is accomplished with spells like Gates Ablaze or Thragtusk.
You have a few strong top end spells like Atraxa, Grand Unifier, Zacama, Primal Calamity or Escape to the Wilds but the main way of winning the game is with Maze's End which in this deck basically means if you control 10 different lands you win the game on the spot!
Alchemy Golgari Toxic by Giuseppe Taglialatela
Changing formats again, lets take a look at a budget alchemy deck – Golgari Toxic by Giuseppe Taglialatela!
If you are low on wildcards this deck plays a bunch of commons and uncommons that you even propably already own, making it really cheap to craft!
This deck maximizes on cards that are able to give your opponent poison counters so its able to win the game with them since when anyone has 10 poison counters they loose the game! The curve of the deck stays really low mostly consisting of cheap creatures with toxic which includes Venerated Rotpriest or Bilious Skulldweller so you are able to start giving your opponent poison counters as soon as possible.
For how cheap the deck is, it is able to win the game really fast if its left unchecked making it a powerful choice if you want to finish the games fast on a tight budget
Alchemy Domain Ramp by OzymandiasMTG (original list by Crokeyz)
The second alchemy deck is Domain Ramp by OzymandiasMTG (the original list is by Crokeyz, but it was piloted by OzymandiasMTG into mythic)
This deck is basicaly an alchemy version of the standard deck Domain Ramp but enhances the strategy with a few powerful spells that the standard version doesn’t have access to! You got the standard ramp cards like Topiary Stomper or Invasion of Zendikar, but you also got access to one of the most powerful mana creatures which is Delighted Halfling which is a powerful effect in the deck because it can make your Atraxa, Grand Unifier uncounterable! Apart from that you got Reprieve or a few sideboard cards, but the deck stays mostly the same as the original standard variant.
Standard Orzhov Midrange by lorente fabrice
And the last on the list is Standard Orzhov Midrange by lorente fabrice!
I would not normally cover this deck, but this exact variant has a bunch of interesting one-of cards choices that I wanted to point out. You got your standard shell that consists of the traditional white creatures like Spirited Companion and Ambitious Farmhand, some removal in the form of cards like The Wandering Emperor or Cut Down and Breach The Multiverse as a top end card.
Pointing out the interesting card choices and starting with planeswalkers we already got some interesting cards in the form of Kaya, Intangible Slayer and moving onto the creatures we got Elesh Norn, Mother of Machines and Sheoldred // The True Scriptures. The instant and sorceries part of the deck also has some interesting cards in the form of Black Sun's Twilight and Can't Stay Away.
Overall the deck has a lot of interesting card choices making it a fun deck to try if you are bored of the standard variants
Thats it for today, stay tuned for next weeks article because we are slowly moving into the end of the ranked season which means more decks to cover! I hope you enjoyed the article and see you soon!
