Hi! I am Vertyx, and I would like to welcome you to my Mythic Decks of the Week article for the second week of December 2023! I will go over the most interesting decks that made it to Mythic on MTG Arena in the second week of December! Let’s take a look at all the decks that people reached Mythic with!
First deck to take a look at is Alchemy Gruul Aggro by dadan_dan_hairu!
This is not your traditional aggro deck, since it prioritizes casting instants and sorceries over creatures!
The only creatures this deck plays are Monastery Swiftspear which works well in a deck full of non-creature spells, and Questing Druid since its basically a non-creature spell and a creature that grows with your spells!
As for the rest of the deck, the instants include some cheap burn spells that either remove creatures like Melt Through and some that can target anything like Shock or Lightning Strike.
The sorceries also have burn spells like Ranger's Firebrand, but they also include an important part of the deck which is the card advantage in the form of Questing Druid and Wrenn's Resolve (that let you cast the top 2 cards of your deck) or even Perilous Iteration that gets you a random 2/1 mana card, and a card that costs 3 or more which in this case is only Fiery Inscription.
Fiery Inscription is probably the biggest reason this deck plays so many non-creature spells since it lets you quickly lower the opponents life to 0 thanks to most of your cards being cheap!
Second deck to cover is Historic Azorius Ensoul by gustavu_as!
This deck uses a bunch of cheap artifacts which it then either uses to get larger threats with Ensoul Artifact or Retrofitter Foundry. Or it also uses them in different ways either it be improvise with Metallic Rebuke or growing Ingenious Smith every turn!
And if you ever run out of cards you got 4 copies of Staunch Crewmate and 4 copies of Ingenious Smith to refuel your hand (and in the case of Ingenious Smith it can even provide a useful threat that grows over a few turns).
And the last deck to cover is Standard Rakdos Midrange by Jub_77! I also covered a very similar deck in the Challenge article which I recommend to check out!
Non-creature spells are not the biggest part of the deck, since you just want to slam a threat after threat, but they still include some cards since you still want other ways to interact with the opponent. They include the “stock” black removal cards like Go for the throat or Cut Down so you can clear the way for you army, and they also include one of the strongest black planeswalkers Liliana of the Veil which can slowly take apart the opponents hand and battlefield with its abilities.
