Hi! I am Vertyx, and I would like to welcome you to my Mythic Decks of the Week article for the second week of 2024! I will go over the most interesting decks that made it to Mythic on MTG Arena in the second week of the year! Let’s take a look at all the decks that people reached Mythic with!
Now you only need a way to use the mana, and a good way to do that is to have Rona, Herald of Invasion‘s ability on your Kami of Whispered Hopes which lets you filter through your whole deck to find anything that you may need.
You filter until you find a copy of Falco Spara, Pactweaver which with Rona abilities, lets you filter the top card of your deck and you basically get to cast every spell that is left in your library so you finish the opponent on the next turn!
Of course, the deck also has a few copies of removal in the form of The Wandering Emperor and Get Lost so you can get a bit more time if the opponent puts on a lot of pressure. And the other non-creatures are Teachings of the Kirin which let you setup your combo more consistently thanks to +1/+1 counter shenanigans, and Virtue of Loyalty which is a good card to cast in multiples when you execute the combo, or you can also use it to give all of your creatures a certain ability thanks to Agatha's Soul Cauldron!
Second standard deck to cover is Rakdos Vampires by Will Erker!
Standard has a bunch of vampires and a few madness shenanigans which this deck uses to its fullest potential! All of the vampires have synergistic abilities where some of them let you get aggressive, some let you remove creatures and others let you gain card advantage!
The creature that helps you remove other creatures is of course Bloodtithe Harvester which has played a major role in all Rakdos based midrange decks in the format, and in this case it can remove basically anything since a lot of your creatures create blood tokens! The second card that could also fall in this category is Bloodthirsty Adversary and the reason behind is, that it lets your recast all of your removal spells like Go for the Throat when it enters the battlefield!
Now that we got standard covered, lets take a look at Timeless Rakdos Breach luigimonte!
This deck may look like a normal low to the ground Rakdos deck in the early game, but it aims to surprise the opponent with a combo kill when it gets its pieces together! Naturally the deck includes the stock Rakdos creatures in the form of Ragavan, Nimble Pilferer, Orcish Bowmasters and Dragon's Rage Channeler, but it also includes Stitcher's Supplier which helps you fill the graveyard for the combo kill!
Filling the graveyard in the early game is the top priority of this deck and having fetchlands and a bunch of cheap spells like Thoughtseize, Mishra's Bauble or Lightning Bolt lets the deck to fill it out very quickly. When you even top it all of with one or more copies of Dragon's Rage Channeler, you get to mill cards every single time you cast a non-creature spell on top of the card itself hitting the graveyard.
And why is the deck trying to fill out the graveyard you may ask? The reason is that the combo kill involves Underworld Breach shenanigans! Your goal is to have enough cards in your graveyard so that you can the recast your “free” spells like Dark Ritual or Mishra's Bauble a bunch of times and eventually kill the opponent with Tendrils of Agony.
Finding these cards can get tough and for that reason you got Diabolic Intent to search for anything you may be missing, and also Dragon's Rage Channeler which lets you use the breach combo way earlier since it lets you refill your graveyard every time you cast a non-creature spells and it can also help you find the missing pieces when you get the combo online!
And the last deck on the list is Timeless Mono-Black Control by Michael Louis!
This variant of mono-black control tries to target a lot of combo decks and make their lives miserable, but how does the deck do it? By playing Ashiok, Dream Render to disrupt all graveyard interactions and tutors, Karn, the Great Creator to combat the graveyard and also their mana with Liquimetal Coating and then you also got Beseech the Mirror to tutor these cards onto the battlefield and Dark Ritual to turbo them out!
