Top Mythic Standard and Historic Decks – September 2020 Season – Week 3

Glasspool Mimic Art by Johan Grenier

We are now only a week in to the release of Zendikar Rising and it feels like it’s already been here for much longer! The hype has settled down somewhat, and as usual we have rounded up the both Standard and Historic decks that are in Mythic this week to explore what players are climbing the ladder with.

MTG Arena Standard Mythic Decks of the Week

Standard rotation looked like a promising, fresh new start but already one deck is taking over the metagame – Four-Color Omnath. It’s early, but unprecedented levels of information sharing, events and analytics are contributing to a format that may be “solved” more quickly than ever. Wizards of the Coast have already announced that they are “monitoring developments in Standard … we intend to provide an update on the format early next week.” which alludes to further card bans.

Whatever happens, there are definitely interesting and fun decks out there and the metagame will quickly shift yet again. We still have the Standard Metagame Challenge event to compete for many booster packs this weekend so be sure to check out our first Meta Snapshot for an update to our tier list:

MTG Arena Historic Mythic Decks of the Week

Much of the focus may have shifted to the new Standard format, but Historic is remains relatively stable as one (powered down) expansion is unlikely to make a huge impact. Some archetypes such as Artifacts, Rogues and Rakdos Arcanist have received a nice boost, and many decks will be happy to experiment with the new Modal Double-Faced Cards to integrate with their mana base.

One deck that stood out amongst all these is the Dualcaster Mage and Neoform combo deck that uses the new Zendikar Rising cards to create a large number of tokens, give them haste and finish your opponent off in one attack. It’s a linear deck with minimal interaction so it’s best in BO1 but you’ll still be racing with the likes of Goblins and Mono Red Burn which are already super fast in this format!

How to Feature Your Deck

This column is our weekly roundup of Standard and Historic decks players are using to climb the ranked ladder on MTG Arena! Our goal is to curate and post a variety of deck archetypes and interesting card choices at the end of each week to help you keep up to date with the latest trends in the metagame. Until we get our deck builder up and running, if you have any decks you wish to be featured here, please Tweet us at @mtgazone, or message us on our Discord sever. Please note, not all decks that are submitted may be added.
