2020-21 Magic Esports Postseason Tournament Dates Announced

Wizards of the Coast has officially announced the dates of the four major competitive events in this year’s postseason via Magic.gg: The Challenger Gauntlet, MPL Gauntlet, Rivals Gauntlet, and of course, World Championship XXVII.

The first of these events will be the Challenger Gauntlet on August 6-8. The Challenger Gauntlet is an invitational tournament where the top players from the Zendikar Rising, Kaldheim, and Strixhaven championships who are not already a part of the Magic Pro League (MPL) compete for one of four invitations to the next MPL season as well as an entry to the World Championship XXVII. This event allows for up-and-coming players to have a chance to compete on the pro scene against some of the best players in the world.

The MPL Gauntlet and Rivals Gauntlet will both take place on September 2-5, and will determine the final competitors in World Championship XXVII. The top four finishers of the Rivals Gauntlet get an invitation to the Championship as well as the opportunity to compete in the MPL 21-22 season. The top two finishers for the MPL Gauntlet qualify for the Championship, with all of the top eight earning their slot in the MPL next season.

The World Championship itself is scheduled for October 8-10 in the epic culmination of the 2020-2021 competitive season. All four of these events will be broadcasted live on the official MTG Twitch channel, and as always, we will be covering the event results and decklists here on MTGA Zone. We hope you are as excited as we are for some of the most intense professional play of the year, and stay tuned with us for more MTGA news and coverage!
