MTG Arena’s Explorer Anthology 3 was met with unfavorable reaction from the community due to the inclusion of cards not making it any closer to Pioneer. In the latest patch notes, it was revealed that the bundle originally had Boros Charm in place of Gruul Charm and Gladecover Scout in place of Eidolon of Blossoms. This definitely would have spiced up the meta a bit more! Furthermore, Miscalculation was also in place of Repeal for Historic Anthology 7. Check out the full patch notes below.
Alchemy Rotation and Renewal is coming up this fall with the Wilds of Eldraine! With the upcoming changes, we’ve added a few prompts to give players more information about them. To learn more, navigate to the Codex of the Multiverse!
Added a brand new page to the Codex of the Multiverse that provides more information about Renewal & Rotation.
In preparing for the upcoming Alchemy Rotation coming this fall, we’ll be updating our 10 New Player Decks with cards released in the last few years.
In addition to the new decks, players will also have each of the current new player deck cards added to their collection. (NOTE: We’ve discovered some bugs with this that we’re working to address)
Sparky’s Challenge and Starter Deck Duels have been updated to make use of the New Player Decks added with this update.
While in the New Player Experience, players will have access to unique loading tips to facilitate learning the fundamentals of Magic: the Gathering.
Improved messaging when we have a server outage to be more helpful.
Gameplay
We now have specific VFX for a loss due to drawing from an empty library. Hopefully this will cut down on the number of games where you go “wait, what how did I… OH… oh.”
Foretold cards weren’t visible at the end of the match if the opponent playing them conceded instead of the match completing normally. Now they are! Sideboard with confidence, Best of 3 players!
When activating an ability to move counters in the hopes of drawing a card, we’ve now added a warning when it won’t result in the card draw as expected
Added an automatic stop on Saga triggers when you have an untapped card that can manipulate those counters to allow Shenanigans more easily.
Casualty costs are now greyed out when you cannot pay them. Previously, they didn’t, because the code that looked at if you had the necessary things to pay a cost insisted that people aren’t THINGS, man! But we’ve rewritten the code so that it understands that people are, in fact, things.
Fixed a bug so players in Spark Rank can now see their opponent’s rank.
Gameplay
Improved hot/cold highlighting and warnings so more enchantments now understand that killing your opponent’s creatures is good, actually.
Minor issue with Tear Asunder causing a player to hold priority when it had legal targets in its kicked mode, but could only be cast in its unkicked mode (which had no legal targets).
Permanents with Protection from Battles now have correct VFX and hangers.
We’ve cleaned up the Backup VFX for tokens.
