Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles (TMT) Limited Archetypes Guide and Example Decks

In this guide, we go over the 5 archetypes in Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles (TMT) Limited, including example decks (archetype skeletons) for you to refer to.

Hey everyone! I am positive that every draft I do of this set will be with the Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles theme song running through my head. Maybe I should step up my game and take a boombox to local events and play it John Cusack style during all of my friends’ matches. I’m sure they will love that and not try to assault me in any way, shape, or form.

I should probably get back on track… Today we will be going over the different archetypes available in TMMT draft along while providing an archetype skeleton of each. This set only has five supported archetypes so it will be a bit shorter than some of the other iterations.

For those of you unfamiliar with archetype skeletons, they are solid versions of each archetype built under specific restrictions. Think of them as decks that could trophy, but are far from guaranteed to do so. It wouldn’t do you much good to look at busted versions because those decks build and play themselves when they pop up. This type of exercise is focused more on maximizing your return while sitting in an average draft seat.

We will be using the limitations of two rares (no mythics), five uncommons (no duplicates), and not more than two of any common. If the deck list says it has a different rarity combination, it is only because of different versions of the card.

The mana bases will remain static for simplicities sake. They will be one of the appropriate dual land with eight of each basic land. I am aware that the math for number of sources might be incorrect on some of these, but that is beyond what is necessary for this exercise. Please don’t be that person who messages me to complain about this.

I have one last thing before we get started. I want to toss a shoutout to Magikids, an absolutely amazing charity that provides kits to help teach kids how to play Magic in an accessible manner. I run a gaming club and they gave us an amazing box of goodies that the kids are loving. We have a bunch of kids in the club who’ve always wanted to play Magic, but didn’t have the ability to do so because they couldn’t afford the cards. Now instead of only watching, they have their own cards to take home and start brewing with. Thank you again to Magikids!

Orzhov

This is the sneaky ninjas deck that utilizes Sneak (the modernized version of Ninjutsu) to play cards either cheaper or as a surprise during the declare blockers step.

Sneak is a great way to steal some extra value out of cards with enters or leaves the battlefield effects. A card such as Featherbrained Filcher would normally be a pretty bad limited card, but can enable sneak while adding extra value every time that it does.

Boros

Boros is following the exact plan that you would expect Boros to be Borosing. Go wide and beatdown. It’s not exciting, but why fix it if it ain’t broke.

Boros does have a theme called alliance this time, which gives you a trigger whenever another creature comes into play. Coincidently enough, playing more dudes is exactly what you were planning on doing.

Izzet

Izzet a spells deck again? (Am I going to write an original joke for this one, probably not when this one so easily presents itself every set). This time it actually isn’t.

This time the Izzet theme is machines which means everything is based around playing with robots and artifacts. Obviously Donatello is the main focus of that theme.

Simic

Simic’s whole thing is playing a pile of mutants and growing them with Mutagen tokens. Those are artifacts that you can pay one mana and sacrifice to put a +1+1 counter on a creature.

Golgari

Golgari is basing things around Michelangelo. The theme is disappear (because he makes pizza disappear…do you get it? and here I thought my dad jokes were bad) which gives you abilities when a permanent you control leaves the battlefield.
