Ikoria: Lair of Behemoths comes with a set of alternate art cards in partnership with Toho International to bring you characters from the Godzilla franchise in Magic: The Gathering. These will be available as card styles in MTG Arena, and there are 19 in total to collect (list below). When the set releases on April 16, you will be able to obtain these in three different ways:

  • Purchasing the pre-order Vivien Pack Bundle: 10 Godzilla Series Monster card styles (Available until April 16)
  • Purchasing pack bundles (Available until May 21)
    • 6 Packs: 1 Godzilla Series Monsters card style
    • 15 Packs: 3 Godzilla Series Monsters card styles
    • 45-Packs: 9 Godzilla Series Monsters card styles
    • 90-Packs: 18 Godzilla Series Monsters card styles
  • Playing in Ikoria: Lair of Behemoths Limited events gets you 1 bonus Godzilla Series Monster card style

These will be obtained at random, and will be duplicate protected. The three cards unique to the Japan in tabletop Magic (Mothra’s Giant Coccoon, Battra, the Dark Destruction Beast and Mechagodzilla) will be localized to your language in the client.

What is really interesting is that the Buy-a-Box promo – Godzilla, King of the Monsters is confirmed to be the only version of the card. In other words, we won’t get to see what Zilortha, Strength Incarnate actually looks like! You can find more information from the post by MTG Arena team below.

ACQUIRING GODZILLA SERIES MONSTER CARD STYLES IN MTG ARENA

We’re only a few weeks away from Ikoria: Lair of Behemoths arriving on MTG Arena – and this time, we’re bringing friends.

For a limited time, all 19 Godzilla Series Monsters will be available in Magic: The Gathering Arena as card styles (cosmetic alternate arts), and there are two ways that players can add them to their collections:

Way #1: Purchasing Ikoria: Lair of Behemoths booster bundles

Whenever you purchase an Ikoria in-game booster bundle with at least six packs, you will receive a Godzilla Series Monster card style:

  • 6 Packs: 1 Godzilla Series Monsters card style
  • 15 Packs: 3 Godzilla Series Monsters card styles
  • 45-Packs: 9 Godzilla Series Monsters card styles
  • 90-Packs: 18 Godzilla Series Monsters card styles
  • Pre-Order Play Bundle: 10 Godzilla Series Monster card styles (Available until April 16)

Way #2: Participating in Ikoria: Lair of Behemoths Limited events

Every time you enter an Ikoria Limited event (Ranked Draft, Traditional Draft, or Sealed) you will also receive one of the card styles as bonus reward per event (regardless of win/loss record).

Exception: Godzilla, King of Monsters

Since the Buy-a-Box card Godzilla, King of Monsters only exists in its Godzilla Series form, acquiring him will be slightly different:

  • Players who purchase the 45 or 90-pack booster bundles (MTG Arena’s equivalent of a booster box) will receive a copy as a “Buy-a-Box” promotion (one for 45-packs, two for 90-packs).
  • As with all “Buy-a-Box” cards in MTG Arena, you’ll also be able to craft Godzilla, King of Monsters using Wildcards (Hint: You’ll need to search for Zilortha, Strength Incarnate because that’s technically the actual name of the card.)

Q&A

Is there duplicate protection?

Yes! One you receive one of the Godzilla Series card styles, you will not receive a second version of that card style regardless of how you acquire them (e.g. purchasing boosters vs. joining events).

What happens when I collect all 18*?

Once you have acquired all 18 card styles . . . that’s it! You will no longer receive bonus card styles when purchasing Ikoria booster bundles or entering Ikoria limited events.

*18, excluding Godzilla, King of Monsters.

Will all 19 card styles be localized?

Yep. While some of the Godzilla Series Monsters will only be printed in Japanese for the tabletop product, all Godzilla Series Monsters will be localized in the languages MTG Arena currently supports.

Can I receive/own a card style without owning the card?

Also yes! General reminder, as card styles the Godzilla Series Monsters are considered a cosmetic item only (. . . again, except for Godzilla, King of Monsters since that card currently only exists as its Godzilla Series Monster). The card style will be added to your collection regardless if you have collected the card it represents.

So, for example – if you receive the Dorat, the Perfect Pet card style, you won’t be able to apply it unless you have Sprite Dragon as part of your collection.

What about the Showcase Card styles?

As with the Throne of Eldraine and Theros Beyond Death showcase styles, we are also planning on a way for players to acquire the Ikoria: Lair of Behemoths Showcase card styles in MTG Arena as well. More details on that at a later date.

Should be a faq: how much are they decreasing limited gem rewards because they added cosmetic rewards?

does anyone know if these arts will be purchasable with gems after the 21st?
