November 3rd Spoilers
Ladies, Gentlemen and Kavus not so long ago we had our latest addition of spoilers, but guess what we are near the end of spoiler season for Avatar the last Airbender universes beyond set in the most delightful form of MTG, here’s the next batch of spoilers brought to you by Code.
Mai, Scornful Striker
In our first review batch of spoilers, Mai, Scornful Striker another great form of Mai, everything Mai appears in is just good value, in this creature form Mai is a First Strike 2/2 for 2, Whenever a player casts a noncreature spell, they lose 2 life, talk about a good 2 mana drops, this is an amazing legendary to create some easy shots at your opponents life total just by them casting Stock up, or Shock.
Suki, Courageous Rescuer 3 mana drop that buffs creatures power by 1, she is a 1/1 token generator but only one trigger per turn, so her pressence is doubtful to be use.
The Legend of Yangchen is a surprising form of another Avatar present in MTG form, Yangchen the previous air nomad avatar in Saga form, these effects are political, both players have to choose a permanent to exile, and the second effect you choose the draw 3 cards for both or maybe not, depends, at third effect she appears in creature form as the saga flips, whenever you cast your second spell you can airbend up to one target nonland permanent, maybe herself for another saga lineup of effects, so choose wisely.
United Front this is a powerful alternative to White sun's Zenith back in the day, as it also buffs your current table state, and that’s free real state.
The Unagi of Kyoshi Island the star of this batch, a Flash serpent 5/5 with Ward- Waterbend 4, similar to Consecrated Sphinx but only at the second card drawn each turn by an opponent you draw two cards, the flash effect is quite useful in response to your opponent draw effects.
Firebender Ascension it is a great rendition to Pyromancer Ascension back in Zendikar, instead this 2 mana drop enchantment, creates a token 2/2 red warrior with firebending that by all means sounds good on paper value so far is spot on, but the best part comes next. Whenever a creature attacks causes an ability to trigger you put a quest counter on it, beyond 4th counter on this enchantment it will trigger another copy of the activated ability, now picture the Fear Of Missing Out with a second attack trigger, insert Death Emoji here, or rather Pyromaniac emoji.
Tolls of War this card deeply resonates with me lore wise Monk Gyatso is the center piece here after being surrounded by the Fire Nation Army in a deadly confrontation despite being a Pacifist Gyatso resorted to combat to delay the inevitable, but mind you the garments of Monk Gyatso are not charred which carries a deep combat implication and the scattered remains of the Fire Nation Army, now MTG wise this enchantment on ETB generates a clue token, and when you sacrifice a permanent creates a 1/1 White Ally token only once per turn, so this 2 mana drop could be quite the token churner.
Iroh, Tea Master, the uncle himself master of teas, and with spot on abilities to depict the tea, ETB effect creates a Food token, beginning of combat you can choose to gift a permanent you control and when you do create a 1/1 White Ally, and put a +1/+1 counter for each permanent your opponent controls that you own. so massive gifts will output heavy critters coming from Iroh.
Platypus-Bear a simple common card with defender, flexible Simic cost for a 2 drop, with a mill effect for 2 cards, Lesson oriented, which implies lore wise, when this creature learns its lesson, it will attack.
Shared Roots Classic Rampant Growth variant, this time in lesson form.
Twin Blades Flash equipment are always nice and on ETB it grants Double Strike, so better watch out.
Tiger-Dillo uncommon worthy, 4/3 by 4 can’t attack or block unless you control another 4 power creature.
Sold out common quite pricey removal, exile target creature, but if it had damage on it, create a Clue token, might be good in Toll of Wars archetypes.
Callous Inspector 1/1 Menace by 1 mana, when it dies it pings its owner by 1 damage and generates a Clue token.
Ember Island Performance modal sorcery, Creates a token copy of a creature you control except its a 4/4 and not legendary, this could prove quite useful for Iroh, Tea Master but convoluted for the mana fixing required to do so. Or maybe copy a creature an opponent controls and its a 2/2.
Gather The White Lotus now this is interesting, 5 mana spell that spits tokens the same length of lands you control, late game between board wipes and drop this 5 mana sorcery to churn out 10 tokens and Scry 2, might fix your odds for a win, but quite on the high mana costs for its actual use of effects.
And with that, we are done with today’s spoilers round, ATLA is turning quite promising in the Ally side of things, for all timeless purposes allies flooding the archetypes in new ways to get more value of ETB or power up effects in general, that benefits both old and new archetypes.
