Hey there all Avatar and MTG fans joined together by the hype of Avatar The Last Airbender Hype train as the legend of Aang coming in MTG card form appears with more MTG previews on October 30th with 22 more cards nearing the end of spoilers season.
First batch to review is coming really strong starting with Origin of Metalbending an estrictly better Naturalize with the option to put a +1/+1 counter and gives indestructible, I mean this card is absolutely good in value as a way to deal with artifacts and enchantments but also having an option to deal with destroy effects? absolutely great spell.
Octopus Form is another great card but is just renamed Shore up great to have when Bloomburrow rotates.
Invasion Submersible one of the vehicles without a Crew keyword, this vehicle turns into creature by either paying 3 mana or tapping creatures or artifacts, then it becomes a 3/3 but the important part is the Boomerang effect, quite pricey mana wise but not bad.
Earth Rumble Wrestlers quite the common tone, not so great for a 3/4 reach critter that all can live up to is getting Trample and +1/+0 for 4 mana.
Deadly Precision is a destroy target creature at sorcery speed, but with great cost alternatives either pay 4 more mana or sacrifce an artifact or creature, there are quite a numbers of ways to have this happen easily and efficiently, either generating maps artifacts or recursion creatures or using dying triggers from other cards.
Bumi Bash This is a rare sight for a destroy land effect coming to standard, this spell has two option or either dealing damage to a creature or destroying a land creautre or nonbasic land, which are quite present in the standard metagame.
Fire Nation Warship well withing the uncommon tone, 3 mana 4/4 vehicle Crew 2 and with a dying trigger to generate a Clue.
Fire Nation Cadets is a creature that a really like well withing theme for the set and works around Lessons, this creature can power up itself during combat.
The protagonist of today’s preview is Zuko, Conflicted has a modal effect to pick a different mode each turn and eventually switching player sides, a 2/3 for 2 mana, that is a mana source, draw source, and power ups itself, is a great card but you might want to end the game or sacrificing Zuko before he switches places.
True Ancestry kind of a Regrowth effect but creates a clue token, not good, not bad.
Secret Tunnel this card hints at the metalbending effect of turning it into a creature and being unblockable, but if that doesn’t happen, it can give two creatures that share the same type an unblockable effect.
White Lotus Hideout quite good uncommon land, mostly intended to fix mana sources for Lessons or Shrines which isn’t quite popular but has an option to filter mana, not good, not bad.
Bumi, Unleashed 5/4 for 5 mana Gruul Legendary Master Bumi is here, by ETB effect wakes up a land to 4/4 form, and by dealing combat damage, untaps all lands you control and gives another combat phase and only land creatures can attack, this heavily hints at the archetype of Metalbending.
Diligent Zookeeper another Ally, with a weird not so common effect non-Human creatures get +1/+1 for each of its types to a maximum of 10, so a shapeshifter wouldn’t benefit from this effect as it has all creatures types and is a human so therefore has no effects, but imagine a Lemur Bat Ally could do near this card.
Tundra Tank gives Indestructible at ETB effect, Crews by 1, and Firebends 1, this card seems to be the pair for another cards within the set that maximizes either attack effects or mana spendable abilities that could benefit from the additional mana.
Lost Days in my book this is a bad spell removal, only if you are considering the artifact generating aspect of this card with the added effect of sending back a creature or enchantment back to the opponents deck.
Forecasting Fortune Teller is a Clue generator creature for a 2 drop in an artifact or draw archetype isn’t bad.
Glider Staff airbending a creature is a powerful option to either bounce back your creatures or removing a pesky blocker from the other side, also a power up and flying source perfect within tone for the card.
Momo, Playful Pet Flying, Vigilance for a 1 drop? that’s good!, but an modal options when leaving the battlefield is awesome this is great uncommon for all formats, artifact generator, +1/+1 counter, or Scry 2 is really good for white.
Fancy Footwork great instant power up for two creatures untapping and +2/+2 for both, this could easily dispatch 4 more damage on the offensive and remain deffensive for the opponents turn, or make surprise defense by untapping and mitigate damage.
Compasionate Healer this creature gains life and scry 1 by tapping, I believe people are going to get creative on this one, by maximizing tap sources or life gain triggers as well getting a Scry 1 trigger is quite helpful for a color that struggles with topdecking or drawing overall.
