Even though Jan Moritz-Merkel won the New Capenna Championship with Jeskai Hinata, it’s hard to say it was a dominant force in that tournament. As far as I know, there were only two pilots, and they both went 4-3 in the Swiss. It wasn't a bad record, but also not what you would expect from two of the best players in the tournament playing the theoretical best deck in the format. If Jan Moritz-Merkel hadn’t done very well in Historic, we might never even have heard of the Jeskai Hinata deck again.

Paulo Vitor "PVDDR" Damo da Rosa has been a professional Magic: the Gathering player and writer for over 20 years. He was Player of the Year in 2017, World Champion in 2020, and is tied for most Top Finishes in history with 17.
