Hey everyone! It might be cold outside, but there’s about to be some straight fire in the kitchen during this week’s edition of Midweek Magic. What do we have going on? I’m glad you asked because it is Cascade Brawl. Those words might seem odd together, but I can assure you that it is going to lead to some serious shenanigans.
Cascade means that when you cast a spell for the first time each turn, you’ll reveal cards from the top of your deck until you hit one with a lesser mana value. You then get to play it for free.
First important point is that it says play, not resolve. That means that even if the spell is countered you still get the cascade. This is a pretty big knock against control decks in this type of format.
The next point is that cards that answer other cards tend to be worse since you can hit them off the cascade at the wrong time. This is another big downer for any type of control decks.
My final point is that you want to include some zero casting cost cards in your deck so you can still get something when you cast a one drop. That means Mox Amber and Mishra's Bauble are pretty much auto includes in every deck.
You might also notice that I mostly built green decks for this. That’s because getting two free 4/4s on turn one from Crashing Footfalls Is a pretty absurd way to start a game.

Event Details
The first time you cast a spell each turn, you’ll get to cast another, less expensive card from your library without paying its mana cost. What a bargain! All you’ll need to play is a 100-card Brawl deck.

Let’s be honest here, you all knew this was coming. It’s basically the tier 0 scumbag deck (In the words of Forky, “You’re just like me. Trash!”) to smash through these types of events or get the quick auto concedes. You can’t go wrong with hitting some extra burn to the face or flooding the board with creatures from the cascades.
Ramping up to absurd creatures is always an enjoyable strategy. Getting an extra ramper out of casting another one can get pretty nutty when Kinnan doubles the mana for them as well.
Is this a serious deck? Not even close, but some people have asked if I could occasionally put a more casual deck in here. Sending a horde of squirrels at your opponent seems casual enough to me.
This does miss out on some of the best hits due to being budget. You can also replace Bristly Bill with any random cheap green legend that you already have, but I’d recommend it for best results. You should also throw in a Crashing Footfalls and a Mox Amber if you have them (or don’t mind sparing a few wildcards).
