Hey everyone! I know itโs going to be hard to tear yourself away from the excitement of Reality Fracture dropping on the same day this Midweek Magic starts. All of reality shattering is a pretty big distraction, but just like the This Is Fine meme, Iโm sure you can manage to ignore it long enough to smash through this event too.
Itโs kind of odd that weโre kicking things off with a Historic event. Normally, the first Midweek Magic of a new set has some sort of major tie-in theme. I guess we did just remove all of the Alchemy changes, which is a pretty massive shakeup to the format, so maybe that counts.
Iโm also sure youโve read enough of my ramblings over the past week, especially if you made it through all of my Reality Fracture Limited reviews: White, Blue, Black, Red, Green, Artifacts & Lands, Multicolor.
Was that entire paragraph just an excuse to shamelessly shill my other stuff? Mayyybeee…
But hey, I have a growing puppy who somehow managed to become about three times her original size in only three weeks. At this rate, Iโm starting to wonder if I accidentally adopted Clifford the Big Red Dog. Sheโs currently eating me out of house and home, so Iโve gotta fund that kibble somehow.
So, with the shameless shilling and puppy updates out of the way, I guess I should probably get to some decklists.

Ends After: You can play as much as you like for the duration of the event.
I slightly modified this one from my newest colleague, Aneurin, who you should definitely check out over in the Premium section.
The concept here is incredibly simple: play Geological Appraiser and win. Thatโs pretty much the entire sales pitch.
You can discard Magma Opus or Creative Outburst on turn two to make a Treasure, then potentially end the game immediately on turn three if everything lines up correctly. No complicated decision tree. No spending twenty minutes figuring out the matchup. Just Appraiser doing Appraiser things.
I really donโt need to say much more. This is basically the perfect deck for anyone who doesnโt want to learn the format and just wants to rack up some quick wins before getting back to Reality Fracture.
Do you enjoy casting a steady stream of spells to build one gigantic mon-star while still having plenty of ways to protect it? Great. Play Auras and go completely off.
The game plan is about as straightforward as it gets: stick a creature, pile a bunch of Auras onto it, protect your investment, and make your opponent deal with the increasingly ridiculous problem youโve created.
Itโs also a pretty great way to knock out some daily quests while youโre at it, but thatโs more of a nice bonus than the main selling point.
Another classic archetype that Historic lets you go crazy with using all the old-school cards, without having to worry about all those free counterspells running around Timeless.
Plus, since this is Best-of-One Midweek Magic, most people arenโt going to be packing a bunch of narrow hate cards for you.
Well… letโs be honest. There will absolutely be a few of them, because Arena loves randomly pairing you against the one dude running the exact card that completely wrecks your deck while being a useless piece of cardboard against almost everyone else.
Yes, I know thatโs the tinfoil hat talking. You remember the times they have the perfect answer for you way more than all the games where theyโre probably staring at a dead card in hand and you never even know it.
Still, sometimes itโs fun to rant about matchmaking while yelling at the kids to get off my lawn.
With Emrakul making an appearance in Reality Fracture, it only feels right that we honor her with a deck built around scamming the opponent by dropping her into play out of absolutely nowhere.
The plan is to tuck her under Fight Rigging, which conveniently lets you fire it off on the very first trigger with Slumbering Trudge. Since Fight Rigging actually casts the card, you even get Emrakul, the Aeons Tornโs extra turn trigger instead of just cheating a giant creature onto the battlefield.
Is this the most reliable thing you could possibly be doing in Historic? Probably not. Is casting Emrakul several turns before anyone should be legally allowed to, taking an extra turn, and forcing your opponent to sit there and think about every life decision that led them to this exact moment hilarious? Absolutely.
Sometimes Magic is about making the correct play. Sometimes itโs about doing something so deeply stupid that it circles all the way back around to being brilliant.
Is this going to win against a normal Historic deck playing a normal game of Magic? Most likely not.
What it can do is steal some completely random wins when your opponent stumbles, keeps a questionable hand, or is suboptimally piloting a deck they copied off a website five minutes before the event started.
Look, Iโm working with commons and uncommons here. Thereโs only so much deck-building wizardry I can perform when the rare and mythic sections of the collection are basically behind a velvet rope.
Youโre not bringing a Ferrari to this race. Youโre showing up in a 2003 Honda Civic with a suspicious noise coming from the engine and hoping the other guy forgets how to drive.
Thanks for reading! Iโll be back next weekend with my first edition of Limited Weekend Update and in a week with your next edition of Midweek Magic. Until then, stay classy people!
