Dominaria United Leaks – Could This Be the New Sheoldred?

With just over a month left to go until Dominaria United (release date on MTG Arena: September 1, 2022), Magic: The Gathering’s next big set to celebrate its 30th anniversary, some new spoilers and information was officially revealed by Wizards of the Coast in their monthly announcement stream:

With that, we knew the Phyrexians were going to be involved in the story, having seen three of the five Praetors in the last few sets with just two new ones left to be seen: Elesh Norn, Grand Cenobite and Sheoldred, Whispering One.

Recently, a big part of the upcoming plot for the next few sets that revolve around Dominaria was leaked via previews of some of the pages of the Magic The Gathering The Visual Guide book, that is now available for preorder and due to be released on December 6, 2022.

With that, another potential card from the upcoming set has been leaked on reddit for us to speculate on, claiming that the poster’s friend sent it to them. Only scroll down and see at your own risk!

Sheoldred, Insidious Conquerer

As is the tradition for MTG leaks, the quality of the photo is not great but the timing to bring up some hype is on point. Other commenters could not find any artwork of the same nature on the internet to prove that it is fake, though others have also nit picked about the text that looks a little bit off. As usual, we just take it for face value and see it for what it is – it could be real, it could be fake!

Legendary Creature – Phyrexian Praetor (Mythic Rare)

Ward – Discard two cards.

Whenever a nontoken creature you control dies, draw a card. This ability triggers only once each turn.

Whenever a nontoken creature an opponent controls dies or an opponent discards a creature card, put that card from a graveyard onto the battlefield under your control. This ability triggers only once each turn.

4/5

Obviously, this card would draw immediate parallels to Tergrid, God of Fright, rotating out of Standard but didn’t see much play but players had fun building around.

As with the other 3 new Praetors, it does not look like a format warping card but again a cool build around card for discard synergies. What do you think? Let us know in the comments below!
