Eternal Weekend Gets Paper Tournaments for the First Time Since 2019

Legacy and Vintage lovers will be able to attend in-person Eternal Weekend events for the first time since the COVID-19 pandemic began, according to the latest announcement from Wizards of the Coast.

Legacy and Vintage lovers will be able to attend in-person Eternal Weekend events for the first time since the COVID-19 pandemic began, according to the latest announcement from Wizards of the Coast.

Last held in 2019, this year’s paper Eternal Weekend will take place in Aichi, Japan from November 26-27 and in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania, USA from December 9-11. Digital Legacy and Vintage players will still be able to participate on Magic: The Gathering Online on December 10 and 11.

Eternal Weekend has long been one of Magic‘s most prestigious events, not least because champions of the Legacy and Vintage main events traditionally receive a special trophy: a one-of-a-kind framed oversized Magic card featuring an original painting.

Here is the gorgeous and unique Wasteland card art that the 2021 Legacy Champion received:

Here are the special trophies and promos that the champions of the 2022 Eternal Weekend events will receive.

North America Eternal Weekend by Card Titan

The 2022 North America Legacy Champion will receive a special Scrubland trophy with art by Raoul Vitale. The Vintage Champion will win an original Time Walk painting by Tyler Walpole. Events will take place from December 9-11 in Philadelphia.

Asia Eternal Weekend by BIG MAGIC

The 2022 Asia Legacy Champion will receive a special Gaea's Cradle trophy with art by Ralph Horsley. The Vintage Champion will win a Bazaar of Baghdad painting by Chris Seaman. These events will be held in Aichi, Japan from November 26-27.

Magic Online Eternal Weekend by Daybreak Games

Magic Online‘s Eternal Weekend event will be spread out over two days, with Vintage and Legacy tournaments taking place on different days. Players can use either 20 Event Tickets or 200 Play Points to enter. Unlike the previous digital Eternal Weekend, there will be no All-Access Event happening concurrently. This means players will need to bring their own decks to enter these events.

The winner of the December 10 Legacy Championship will earn a unique The Tabernacle at Pendrell Vale trophy with art by Milivoj Ceran. The December 11 Vintage Championship winner will receive an Ancestral Recall trophy with art by Volkan Baga.

Fortunately, the champions of these events will receive physical copies of their trophies! Interestingly, the trophies say “Europe” on them. That’s because the digital events are set to replace a previously planned Europe Eternal Weekend event.

Finally, all players who make Top 8 of the six different events across all locations will receive special promos as well. Unlike the trophies, however, these promos are actual Magic cards playable in the formats they’re legal in!

Legacy Champion Top 8 players will receive a Ponder with art by Julie Dillon, while Vintage Top 8 participants will earn a Gush promo by Sam White.

As of publishing, the details of the North America and Asia Eternal Weekend events haven’t been released yet. Stay tuned for more information about these awesome events.
