MTGA Waiting for the Sever

High Profile Events on Arena Marred by Technical Issues

This weekend saw the launch of several highly anticipated events on MTG Arena, but many players have reported issues with server overload. The Historic Brawl Fest event launched on Friday, and was immediately popular enough that players on Reddit reported being placed in a queue before finding a match.

The situation only got worse today with the launch of the Arena Open, with many high profile players jumping to Twitter and other social media platforms to talk about unstable servers and endless loading screens.

Wizards of the Coast has been mostly silent about the in-game issues thus far despite scores of dissatisfied players looking for answers on Reddit communities like r/MagicArena, spawning everything from lighthearted memes to posts encouraging that players demand Wizards for refunds if their play is affected. MTG Arena has a reporting tool which players can use to report issues which can be accessed here.

Additionally, some players have reported that their client never even finishes loading in, instead getting stuck on a blank screen. You may be able to fix this issue by using the Alt-F4 command to close the game and restarting multiple times.

As of Saturday evening, the official MTG Arena Status page shows partial outages in several categories, and the Wizards Customer Support Twitter account posted the following Tweet addressing the widespread issues:

This is not the first time that MTG Arena servers have experienced outages due to heavy load, and many players are feeling the frustration. As of the writing of this article, about three hours have passed since the Tweet acknowledging these issues was sent out and there has not been any further information from official Wizards sources.

Signups for the Arena Open are scheduled to close on May 9 at 3:00 a.m. PT, so if the server issues are not resolved soon, Wizards may be compelled to offer refunds or extend the Day One signups. If you are experiencing issues logging into the game or playing matches, stay tuned here on MTGA Zone for updates and keep an eye on the official Twitter feeds for more information.
