Lord of the Rings: Tales of Middle-Earth Combos and Synergies Guide

In this guide, we go over some combos and synergies for Lord of the Rings: Tales of Middle-Earth Limited.

Hey everyone! We’re a few days into our adventures into Middle-Earth and let’s just say that things in limited land are looking slightly better for Sauron’s forces than Team Shire. While I can’t turn the tide of that battle, I can provide you with some combos and synergies to help you win yours.

Per usual, I will be focusing on common and uncommon interactions because they are far more likely to come up. Typically, if I get into rares/mythics, it’s because it is particularly spicy or I just find it entertaining.

Mauhur, Uruk-hai Captain and March from the Black Gate

Two, Four, Six, Eight, who do we appreciate? Mauhur! Well at least that’s the math that he makes amass do because why only add one +1+1 counter when you can do two every…single…time. Someone did this to me the other day, but with two March from the Black Gate. It was mercifully over very quickly.

A great little combo that both cards are highly rated on their own, but when their powers combine…No I wasn’t going to do a Captain Planet reference there… It’s almost like you all have read enough of my stuff to expect that kind of thing. Just draft these and profit.

Arwen Undomiel and Grey Havens Navigator

While I can’t possibly recommend going into Simic unless it is ridiculously open, Arwen Undomiel is one of the ways that deck can actually come together.  The thing with her is that everything that instantly scrys becomes a combat trick. You can use the Grey Havens Navigator or even Hithlain Knots to give that surprise +1+1 counter to steal a combat.

Gollum, Patient Plotter and Haunt of the Dead Marshes

Guess who’s back, back again. Both of these are back, tell some friends. Gollum lets you bring back Haunt of the dead Marshes either by being in play or making something else Legendary when it dies. Then when you need something to sacrifice to bring Gollum back, Haunt of the dead Marshes is there to take one for the team.

Meneldor, Swift Savior and Voracious Fell Beast

Some people may settle for blinking Uruk-hai Berserker or some other decent ETB effect, but not me. I want it all. By all, I mean forcing my opponent to spend the rest of the game in The Abyss while I’m stacking food.

Beating them in the face with seven power in the air is just a nice side effect that will probably end the game quickly even if that ruins all the fun I was having.

Treason of Isengard and Gandalf’s Sanction

Did your opponent have the audacity to not die to your Gandalf's Sanction? Treason of Isengard can solve that problem by bringing it back to light them up all over again. You even get two points of amass and another spell in your yard for your troubles.

Generous Ent and Rise of the Witch-King

A very simple, but effective combo that starts off when you innocently land cycle your Generous Ent away. Your opponent will think that you just needed to hit a land drop, but little do they know that it was a set up all along.

They are playing a normal game of Magic when you suddenly sacrifice a random 1/1 for your Ent to generously rise from the dead to dominate the board.

Erkenbrand, Lord of Westfold and Rally at the Hornburg

Are you into all of your creatures smashing in for an absurd amount of damage? I’m pretty sure that really does it for almost everyone. Adding two +1+0 triggers to all of your creatures (even non-humans) including your two newly hasty beaters is going to leave your opponent sitting there asking themselves what just happened.

Theoden, King of Rohan and Eomer of the Riddermark

The current and future king of Rohan (spoiler alert) combine to lay a massive beating on your opponent. While Theoden works great with Rally at the Hornburg as well, giving your massive creature double strike off of it putting a 1/1 in to play is going to put them in a block or die situation with a swiftness.

Strangely enough, two broken uncommons do some serious work together.

Mirkwood Bats and Mordor Trebuchet

While you need an orc or goblin to get this to go off, there are plenty of ways to make one as a two drop to fit into this curve. Those ballistic boulders hitting for a total of four is a huge difference that is going to take giant chunks out of your opponent’s life total.

Meriadoc Brandybuck and Peregrin Took

It’s only right that everyone’s favorite hobbits (Let’s be honest here, they are the fun hobbits. Sam and Frodo are full of drama.) complement each other while providing plenty of provisions. Merry produces a food when a hobbit attacks and Pippin refuses to settle for only one meal so you get double. Pippin even provides a way to turn those extra food tokens into extra cards.

Storm of Saruman, Ioreth of the Healing House, and Wose Pathfinder

Now this secret spice is really turning up the heat! This also requires a way to make Wose Pathfinder legendary by tempting it with the ring, but infinite mana in limited is a pretty sick payoff.

Basically, you use Storm of Saruman to make a nonlegendary copy of Ioreth of the Healing House. Then you tap your (now legendary from being tempted) Wose Pathfinder for mana while the legendary Ioreth untaps the nonlegendary one which then can use its double untap on Wose Pathfinder and the legendary Ioreth. Do a whole bunch of wash, rinse, repeating and ta-dah, infinite mana of any color!

Now that you have all that mana, you can keep going through the cycle, but with using Wose Pathfinder to give trample and approximately +a billion +a billion to one of your creatures. Just crash on in for mega lethal and kick back with a tasty beverage to reward yourself for a job well done.

Is this likely to happen? Not really. Will you have time to go through all the steps on Arena? Not Likely. Will it be awesome if you pull it off? It’ll be legendary.
