Momir – Midweek Magic Event Guide

Hey everyone! It feels like I haven’t written anything in approximately a week, which must mean that it is once again time to talk about Midweek Magic. This week we are going to be jamming what many people consider to be one of the darkest places in Magic. That’s right, it’s time to play some Momir. Some people love it, some people hate it. It is what it is. On the bright side, all of your wild cards are safe.

Momir is very simple. Your entire deck is basic lands and you have an emblem that let’s you pay x mana to discard a card to create a random creature of that casting cost. There really isn’t that much strategy involved, but I’ll go over what little there is after some event info.

Event Details

Use the emblem, discard a card, and pay X to create a token copy of a random creature card with mana value X. Every turn is a surprise!

• Ends After: You can play as much as you like for the duration of the event.

Event Rewards

General Strategy

The general consensus is that eight is the magic number for the casting cost that you want to get up to and keep making creatures at. Without hitting any mana rampers or card draw, that means you want to start using the emblem on turn three on the play and turn two on the draw.

Combat math can be really important here. You don’t have to worry about any tricks that aren’t on board since the decks are all land. Take the time and figure it out.

Obviously, there is a lot of luck involved. Any form of ramp can put you so far ahead of your opponent, but in most games it is really those later game hits that matter.
