This afternoon, Wizards of the Coast published their regular MTG Arena announcements bulletin with some new details about upcoming events. There are three main points of interest for Arena players in this week’s announcement:
The Arena Open takes place this weekend. The Arena Open is a two day, open entry tournament that gives players a chance to compete for cash and gem prizes. Day one will feature both best-of-one and best-of-three play. 7 wins in Bo1 or 4 match wins in Bo3 during day 1 will reward 2,000 gem rewards in addition to a qualification for day two.
Day two of the Arena Open will only feature best-of-three. Players who are able to win 7 matches before 2 losses will win $2,000, as well as an invitation to compete in the upcoming Qualifier Weekend. Find more information about the Arena Open here.
Jumpstart: Historic Horizons – Last Monday, Wizards announced a new, Arena-only set that will bring cards from both Modern Horizons sets to Historic, along with 31 cards that are new to Magic and designed specifically for digital play. Historic Horizons will function much the same as the original Jumpstart- two packs with different themes are selected and combined to build a functional deck. See here for details on all of the pack contents that have been revealed so far.
The Yawning Portal event: More details have been revealed for the upcoming Yawning Portal event on Arena, running from July 30 through August 10. The event will feature a Standard Singleton format where each player has an “On a Quest!” emblem that reads “Whenever you cast your second spell each turn, venture into the dungeon.” The event can be entered as many times as you like, and for each entry you will earn rulebook card style rewards from Adventures in the Forgotten Realms (even with zero wins). Check out more details on our Yawning Portal event page.
Lastly, this week’s Midweek Magic features Standard All Access, a format where everyone gets temporary access to all cards in the Standard format to build decks with.
