First one on the list is Selesnya Artifacts by kalkbacken!

This Selesnya deck goes all in on artifacts to take an advantage of every possible synergy and interaction that those cards can offer! the cheap threats that are most likely going to be the finishers in this deck are Teething Wurmlet, Patchwork Automaton and Michiko's Reign of Truth. Those cards can grow really big since most of your cards are artifacts and these benefit from casting and having the most artifacts on the battlefield as you can!

The rest of the threats are all artifacts so they can grow these above mentioned cards to make them even stronger (those threats include cards like Skrelv, Defector Mite, Autonomous Assembler or Steel Seraph). If you have the need for removal this deck also has an artifact for it and that artifact is Annex Sentry. Overall a very synergistic deck that uses all of its artifacts to create a symbiosis between your cards to work your way to victory with big threats!

We are staying with artifacts in standard but moving to red with Mono Red Artifacts by Scott The Murloc!

This deck also utilizes artifacts to create a deck that wants to finish the game as soon as possible but instead of Selesnya it does that in mono-red! This deck takes an advantage of artifacts in red to create a highly synergistic aggro deck that can win the game really fast! A lot of the threats in this deck cost only 1 mana and provide a powerful creature for the mana invested that’s also an artifact most of the time! Those can include Reinforced Ronin, Patchwork Automaton or even Gleeful Demolition which can create three 1/1 goblins for a single red mana if you have a spare artifact you are willing to destroy!

Almost every card in the deck is able to apply pressure, even something like Yotia Declares War which doesn’t do much aggro early but its final chapter is able to grow one of your artifacts to a 4/4 creature! The only exception is Experimental synthesizer which is not a threat but instead provides a strong card advantage engine so it can afford to not deal damage. A really low to the ground deck that really benefits from all of its threats and payoffs!

The last standard deck is Azorius Jace Control by Paul Franz!

This deck is mostly just a normal Azorius Control deck utilizing premium removal, boardwipes and cheap counterspells to get the game under control before it slowly proceeds to finish the game. The part that stands out is 4 copies of Jace, the Perfected Mind which acts as an interesting late game finisher.

In the early and mid game it can lower creatures power or possibly draw 3 cards but according to the creator it mostly acts the strongest in lategame providing a card that can mill the opponent for 15 cards with 4 mana invested. If the game goes too long those 15 cards can be enough to win the game! An interesting approach to the archetype!

Lets move to alchemy to take a look at Abzan Pod Combo by ratkorga!

This Abzan deck takes an advantage of its namesake card Spawning pod to get all of its combo pieces onto the battlefield as soon as possible! The whole deck is centered around the combo itself either by ramping you into your cards (Delighted Halfling, Courier's Briefcase or Shambling Ghast) drawing you cards so you are more likely to find the combo pieces (The One Ring or Deadly Dispute) or making the combo easier in other ways (Ominous Traveler which gives you sacrifice fodder for the pod or A-The Meathook Massacre which finishes the combo faster).

The actual combo involves Boromir, Warden of the Tower and 2 copies of Ratadrabik of Urborg (first is the original one and the second is the 2/2 non-legendary zombie copy). Your goal is to get all of these cards onto the battlefield, when you accomplish that you can then sacrifice Boromir to its own ability â–¶ that triggers both Ratadrabiks letting you create 2 non-legendary zombie Boromir copies.

Thanks to The Ring Tempts you mechanic you are able to choose one of those tokens as your ring-bearer which makes it a legendary creature â–¶ sacrifice it to its own ability â–¶ when you sacrifice it to its own ability you get to trigger the Ratadrabiks again netting you a 2/2 zombie every loop of the combo! This way you are able to create as much 2/2 zombies as you are willing to click on the online client! A really fun looking combo deck!

Lets move into Explorer now to take a look at Azorius Lotus Field by Mikebrav!

This is not the traditional Azorius Control deck you are used to! It utilizes some of the same cards that traditional Azorius Control plays but this deck also wants to play an “unfair” route by ramping itself into cards like Teferi, Hero of Dominaria! It accomplishes that with Lotus Field, but that card alone would not be beneficial for the control deck to play so that’s where Discontinuity and Strict Proctor come in handy! Both of these cards are able to circumvent the “sacrifice 2 lands” clause by either ending the turn or by countering the ability!

When you get to 1 or 2 copies of Lotus Field things start to get fun for you! You get the ability to use a lot of mana thanks to Teferi, Hero of Dominaria ability that lets you untap 2 lands at the end of your turn (those can be the 2 lotus fields you accumulated so instead you get to have access to additional 6 mana every end step). You can then use the mana for cards like Shark Typhoon to create a huge shark or Memory deluge to get enough advantage that the opponent cannot handle! A really fun control deck that takes a slightly different route to accomplish its gameplan!

The second explorer deck is Boros Pia by WayneChirler!

This deck might look like a Standard Boros Aggro deck but it also plays a few cards that would not normally slot into the archetype. Instead of going full monty on aggro this deck also plays a lot of grindy card advantage cards that red just recently got its hands on (those cards are Wrenn's Resolve, Reckless Impulse and Showdown of the Skalds where all of them net you cards if you get to use them in time).

The namesake card Pia Nalaar, Consul of Revival works well with those cards because it nets you a 1/1 Thopter for each card you use from those spells! This deck still has the fast aggro gameplan but when it needs it can slow down a bit and start grinding its way through the battlefield! If you wanted to try a less traditional aggro deck that is more resilient to decks with fast and cheap interaction I think that this one is exactly for you!

The last deck on the list is Explorer Gruul Goblins by disk3001!

The main core of the deck is an all in aggro tribal deck utilizing a lot of cheap goblins (for example Fanatical FIrebrand or Cacophony Scamp) and in combination with lords (for example Rundvelt Hordemaster or Hobgoblin Bandit Lord) they create a fast tribal clock with other powerful abilities that those cards provide! The core of the deck could be mono-red but green mainly comes in at the 4 drop slot for Collected Company which serves as a strong way to further enhance the goblin aggro gameplan! Overall a very fast synergistic tribal deck, if you are a fan of goblins this one is a no-brainer!

Thats it for today, stay tuned for the next weeks articles! I hope you enjoyed it and see you soon!
