First deck to look at is Explorer Birthing Pod by Michael Louis! A creature focused combo deck that wants to swarm the board with a bunch of threats in a single turn!

The whole combo is centered around Prime Speaker Vannifar and its activated ability that lets you execute the desired sequence. The rest of the deck is filled with cards that either enable the combo or make you more likely to execute it.

Before we look at all of the supporting cards, lets go straight into the combo! The core ability that you need is the one on Prime Speaker Vannifar which you can either get with the card itself or you can also exile Vannifar with Agatha's Soul Cauldron and put the ability on any creature you want!

So now that you got Vannifar’s ability on the battlefield, you want to sacrifice any 1 mana creature and get Corridor Monitor onto the battlefield and use its ability to untap Vannifar! Now you are in the same spot but with Corridor Monitor on your field which you then sacrifice to Vannifar again and this time you get Extraction Specialist that will reanimate the Corridor Monitor that you just sacrificed (And now you are in the same spot again, but you have Extraction Specialist on the battlefield)! Now you repeat this 4 times so you can get all Extraction Specialists you play onto the battlefield and also 3 other copies that you get thanks to Glasspool Mimic.

With seven 3/2 creatures you then get Imodane's Recruiter that gives them all haste and +1/+0 making you swing out for at least 31 damage which should hopefully take out the opponent, or in the worst case gain you enough life to survive until the next turn! The combo itself has more ways of being executed, but the one I explained above is probably the best one to get a general feel of how the deck plays.

Now that we got the combo covered, we can also look at other cards that let you combo way sooner! They include cheap sacrifice targets that also ramp you in the form of Llanowar Elves and Elvish Mystic, cards that help you search for your combo pieces like Rona, Herald of Invasion, Fauna Shaman or Instrument of the Bards, and also Tyvar, Jubilant Brawler that lets you activate Vannifar the turn it hits the battlefield and also use it its ability for free a second time thanks to its +1 ability!

We ain’t stopping with Explorer combo decks with the second one being Bard Class by SirDudeManBro!

This deck is also centered around a single card and that is Bard Class. Without it the deck still functions as a Gruul Midrange deck full of aggressive creatures, but with it it becomes able to do all of the “broken” stuff that it was built to do so for that reason I am going to explain the powers of the deck when you have access to the card rather than without it.

So the first thing you want is to get Bard Class onto the battlefield and level it up to its second chapter either right away or on the next turn depending on when you get to cast it. With the second level all your legendary creatures become cheaper by exactly one green and one red mana which is a very narrow ability, but lucky for you, a lot of creatures you play cost only one green and one red like Ruby, Daring Tracker, Gallia of the Endless Dance or Targ Nar, Demon-Fang Gnoll which you now became able to cast for free!

Now you can swarm the battlefield and try to win the game with the above mentioned 2 mana creatures or also some more expensive cards like Samut, Vizier of Naktamun or Domri, Anarch of Bolas. Deploying your whole hand on turn 3 is a strong effect, but if you want to pull it even further, you can also level up Bard Class to its third chapter which gets you 2 other cards to play whenever you cast any of your legendary creatures and that basically results in you being able to cast a majority of your deck for free in a single turn!

Of course you wont get Bard Class every single game, so that’s when you need to win by naturally casting those creatures as you would usually do. But the ceiling of the deck is very high when everything works out right!

Moving onto Standard, lets take a look at Gruul Combat Tricks by Mazzero! This deck is very similar to Explorer Boros Heroic, but without any actual Heroic creatures.

The decks gameplan can be separated into big sections. The first step of the gameplan is getting a creature onto the battlefield like Monastery Swiftspear, Cacophony Scamp or Questing Druid. The second step is using your combat tricks on those creatures which include cards like Giant Growth, Monstrous Rage or other similar effects that make your creatures huge and then you can swing out for lethal! When you cast enough of them you can even finish the opponent in a single swing when everything goes right!

The second Standard deck and also the last one that we will take a look at today are Boros Soldiers by MTGA – BrewLab! This soldiers variant on top of being focused on soldiers also has a +1/+1 counters sub theme.

As with most soldier decks, this one also includes the “stock” cards like Recruitment Officer or Valiant Veteran, but it also includes cards that benefit from +1/+1 counters like Dusk Legion Duelist or Baird, Argivian Recruiter and even creatures that let you put +1/+1 counters on your threats like Siege Veteran.

With +1/+1 counters being a sub-theme of the deck, it also focuses on it in its non-creature spells. Those include some sorceries like Homestead Courage or Angelfire Ignition and even a planeswalker in the form of Archangel Elspeth giving the deck an ability to make its threats even scarier than they originally were.

And as for the other non-creature spells, the deck plays 3 copies of Surge of Salvation as a protection spell since it doesn’t have access to counterspells.

The End
