MTG Arena’s Latest Update Finds New Datamined Creature Cards
The game files in the recent 0.18.00.00 game update revealed creature cards not currently available in MTG Arena, thanks to the datamine by the folks at MTG Arena Pro and u/5thhorseman over at reddit for their discovery.
What they all have in common are their high mana cost and are from older sets (some from way back in the Magic: The Gathering history). Some notable cards include:
- Iona, Shield of Emeria
- Ulamog, the Ceaseless Hunger
- Bedlam Reveler
Other than these, most of them are underwhelming cards in a vacuum. This is leading to speculation that these cards are added to the Momir pool in MTG Arena, possibly in the next weekend event. This is a probability because MTG Arena’s creature pool is thin (only 8 sets worth of cards so far), especially at the high mana cost range. This lead to games where players race to 9 mana for Zacama, Primal Calamity where its power is unrivaled.

However, some cards seem unintuitive in Momir, such as Iona, Shield of Emeria where her abilities do nothing, as well as Dragon Tyrant as you have no way of paying for its upkeep cost. Dread Cacodemon’s ability also does nothing as we are not playing these from our hands. It could also mean they are added to dilute the 9 to 10 pool of creatures, and not necessarily meant to be good cards for this format.
Another possibility of course, is another new format or that these cards will never see the light of day in MTG Arena. We will find out eventually! In the mean time, check out all the cards that were datamined below.
