Hello and welcome Ladies, Gentlemen, and Kavus! Secrets of Strixhaven is coming on April 24th 2026, our next in-universe set the famous Strixhaven school of Magic, set in the plane of Arcavios, 5 dual colored Collages conform the School of Strixhaven:
Lorehold
Prismari
Quandrix
Silverquill
Whiterbloom
Let’s recap from we were last saw news of the new chapter for our beloved school of magic, on January 27th we got insane previews
Lorehold, the Historian 5/5 flying, haste for 5 CMC is pretty wild even for Standard metagame, anything in your hand has Miracle by 2 colorless mana, which makes anything you draw a Miracle activation first time on any turn, and also let’s you draw on opponent’s turn, Miracles for you twice!
For Mathemagics is a new never seen magnitude to draw cards XXUU mana cost and draw cards equals 2 elevated X cards, this can be played by only 2 blue mana and still getting you a card in at sorcery speed, this card to me has really good sweet spot on X being 2, you spend 6 mana and draw 4 cards, but given is a sorcery speed it might not end up being relevant unless paired with a mill deck to get your opponent to draw his entire deck on the last turns could turn into a win, so this card to me is either splash with green for more greater draws at earlier turns or pair with black in Dimir mill control scenarios.
Arcane Omens and Archaic's Agony use the Converge Keyword, by the amount of colors used paying their mana cost it will get higher X effect, Omens will make target player discard based on converge amount used, at sorcery speed, its quite typical broad effect for a discard, this card will not see mono black or dual colored decks, I see this either on tri colored, limited play or nothing else really, so which I hate to say is a really bad card, although Archaic's Agony has better options as if it deals damage to a creature on Converge amount and the excess damage let’s you reveal the top of your library and letting you play those cards until the end of next turn.
Bogwater Lumaret somehow reminds of Putrid Leech back in the day, where this card really had good interaction on Golgari colors, so I think this card will become some kind of staple for life gain triggers on non-typical white colored brews, maybe even good on Limited.
With some unofficials cards shown today on X.com platform, we got
Fractal Mascot (4)GU – Creature Fractal Elk 6/6 – Trample, When This creature enters, tap target creature an opponent controls, put a stun counter on it.
Pursue the past RW – Sorcery – You gain 2 life, You may discard a card, If you do, draw two cards. Flashback(2)RW.
Stadium Tidalmage (2)UR- Creature Djinn Sorcerer – Whenever this creature enters or attacks, you may draw a card. If you do, discard a card.
Render Speechless (2)WB – Sorcery – Target Opponent reveals their hand. You choose a nonland card from it. That player discards that card. Put two +1/+1 counters up to one target creature.
Mage Tower Referee (2)- Artifact creature Construct – Whenever you cast a multicolored spell, put a +1/+1 counter on this creature.
Grapple With Death (1)BG – Sorcery – Destroy target artifact or creature. you gain 1 life.
Visionary’s Dance (5)UR – Sorcery – Create two 3/3 blue and red Elemental creature tokens with flying. (2), Discard this card: Look at the top two cards of your library, Put one of them into your hand and the other into your graveyard.
Page, Loose Leaf – Legendary Artifact Creature Construct – tap: (1). Grandeur – Discard another card named Page, Loose Leaf: reveal cards from the top of your library until you reveal an instant or sorcery card. Put that card into you hand and the rest on the bottom of your library in a random order.
Elemental Mascot (1)UR – Creature Elemental bird – Flying Vigilance, Opus- Whenever you cast an instant or sorcer spell, this creature gets +1/+0 until the end of turn, if five or more mana was spent to cast this spell, exile the top card of your library. you may play that card until the end of your next turn.
Wrap Up
To conclude our first spoiler session on Secrets of Strixhaven, is looking regular as we don’t see any good hitters yet, Lorehold is still quite high mana cost in the current meta, but maybe will pair up with forgotten Lightning, Army of One which I still believe holds some potential to shine through. as for everything else, maybe not impactful standard wise but maybe on historic side of things Grandeur and Opus could shine given the flexibility on mana and high steep level of play there.
