Hey everyone! I am currently enjoying a nice spring break, but the Magic content cycle never takes a day off. That means I am, once again, here to discuss the latest Midweek Magic event. This week it is going to be Standard Cascade.
For those of you who never played with Cascade, it is similar to Discover except you don’t get to keep the card if you can’t cast it right away. With the emblem here, you get to Cascade off of the first spell you cast each turn. Be careful which order you cast your spells in so you don’t whiff when you could have gotten a free spell.
This makes reactive cards a lot worse because they can be dead cards when you hit them off Cascade. It also makes instants a lot better because you can take advantage of the emblem on your opponent’s turn as well.
There aren’t any busted cards currently in standard that would break the format wide open with free cascade. (I’m looking at you Crashing Footfalls) Once you add all that up, I feel like most players will be playing normal standard decks with the bonus of some extra cards. In other words, I would expect a lot of aggressive decks.
Event Details
Bring your 60-card Standard deck. The first time you cast a spell each turn, you’ll get to cast another less expensive card from your library without paying its mana cost. What a bargain!

Ends After: You can play as much as you like for the duration of the event.
It’s Midweek Magic with a slightly wonky format. Were you really expecting something different than all in red? Light them up and move on with your life.
While there aren’t a ton of expensive cards to trigger the cascade off of, it is such a high quality deck that it can be worth running anyways. It is also annoying as sin to play against so it has that going for it as well.
While hitting Oculus off of a cascade would be sick, this deck really doesn’t want to play more expensive cards just to hope for the memes. (Of course, I don’t blame you if you make some modifications to take a trip to memeville).
