Strixhaven Constructed Decklists

As Strixhaven is a guilds set (a set based around 5 different color combinations), the most obvious place to go is build a deck within each guild (or school). You could play 3 color decks combining two schools, but I feel like the best decks have to be both consistent and powerful, not just playing every good spell you can. You can use my decks straight away, make changes, or try something else entirely! This event is casual by nature, but you do want to get the coveted 4-0 or 4-1 to get the maximum prize. Although I think all these decks are reasonable, I’ll rank them at the end to tell which I think are the best.

Quandrix likes ramping, so that’s exactly what we’re going to do. We have a lot of ramp spells and top end which makes this strategy very consistent and straightforward.

The power level of Silverquill’s cards is very high and makes a really nice midrange deck. You have good creatures and good interaction, what else could you ask for?

Lorehold Prowess looks to give up some of the late game power you get with the other schools in exchange for pure speed. Our curve stops at 3 and we’re looking to go 2 into 3 into a flurry of spells every game (of course we’d love to start with a Lumimancer, but it’s the only 1). While a lot of players may be looking to play clunkier decks, this may be the recipe to get under them.

Like Silverquill, Witherbloom has access to a host of great interactive options. Unlike Silverquill though, we give up a lot on the power level of our cards to play more Learn cards and more synergistic options like Blex, Vexing Pest, Deadly Brew, and Plumb the Forbidden. If you like synergy based grindy decks, this is the one for you.

We take a bit of a different approach with Prismari as this acts way more like a Control deck more than a midrange deck. Instead of playing a fair game of Magic, we’re either stalling out the game until we can start slamming huge spells like Magma Opus or Elemental Masterpiece, or we try to cheat them out with Efreet Flamepainter. Either way, this deck is quite good at making the games go long so you can start going over the top with the large spells.

Now a complete left turn from the expected norm, despite lacking 1 drops to really push this strategy over the edge, Monowhite looks surprisingly good for the format. There really aren’t many board wipes or spells to be particularly afraid of, so curving out with reasonable creatures into great payoff like Blade Historian, Sparring Regimen, or Dramatic Finale to finish the opponent off.

So to finish off, how would I rank these decks?

I do think all these decks are perfectly playable, but this is how I’d rank them if you’re purely looking for the wins. Both Quandrix and Witherbloom have good synergy elements, but somewhat lack the power I’m looking for. I could be underrating Prismari as the curve isn’t great, but it probably has the highest power level out of all the decks. Lorehold and Monowhite I think are both very good as most decks in the format are going to be very clunky and this can definitely capitalize on that. That being said, I think Silverquill takes the cake as the card quality is extremely high overall and the curve is excellent to fight against decks fast and slow alike.
