Wizards of the Coast has announced the formation, structure, and members of the new Commander Format Panel, an advisory group of community members, content creators, and Commander players meant to help W.o.t.C. steer Commander in the right direction.
Forming the Commander Format Panel
As I mentioned before, keeping the community front and center here is critical. So, we wanted to assemble a group of the community to manage Commander: the Commander Format Panel (CFP).

This group will be working with our design teams and other teams at Wizards to help provide feedback and craft the Commander experience.
Where Gavin states the intended approach of this panel is to directly address feedback and community concerns, what this panel is not intended for is to construct or change rules or at least not in the near future, but in the long run for this panel to “bubble up trends” and ” voice community concerns”.
To that end, I’ve also told the members of the panel that they’re not just welcome to express their own opinions publicly but are encouraged to.
It’s important for the panel mission to have every member encouraged to have their opinion heard and the message to get through the design team at WotC and the community as well.
The panel will be subjet to a yearly rotation of members some go out and others join, this to keep in mind a global reach to address, as MTG is an already stablished global experience so it is for the Commander format.
This provides natural rotation from year to year, helping to make sure we have a mix of people keeping the vision and new voices coming in to represent the community.
The official article for the Commander Panel has been reviewed by all their members which in practice goes to show the effort and approach they are committing.
On a final note the Panel’s mission alongside its members, is a clear giveaway to WotC intentions to keep the community and the Commander experience healthy across every part of it, the yearly rotation to keep the panel fresh, updated, and for every member to represent the voice to a particular concern or trend speak volumes be it for better or worse.
