Welcome back to another edition of the MTG Arena Zone Top Mythic Decks of the Week! At the end of each regular week of the ranked season, we review all of the decks we’ve collected from content creators across the web and feature some of those that have achieved the highest ranks in Mythic.
This week, players are continuing to brew and play with a range of powerful new cards from Kamigawa: Neon Dynasty. In Standard, we’ve got three diverse decks that all heavily feature nonland cards from the new set. We’ll also check on the Historic format, where Azorius ruled the week. To round things off, we’ll take a look at two decks in Alchemy that were both piloted up to the #1 Mythic rank.
There’s a lot to go over from this week, and all but one of our spotlighted decks were used to achieve ranks in the Top 50. Let’s dive in!
Standard Top Mythic Decks of the Week
Bo1 Esper Flash by Sonio – #31 Mythic
Up first, we have an Esper Control list published by YouTube creator Sonio. This deck is looking to play mostly at instant speed, including permanents like Neon Dynasty’s The Wandering Emperor and the deck’s main finisher, Hullbreaker Horror. Hullbreaker decks are nothing new in Standard, and Sonio is continuing to prove the power of the oppressive Kraken by achieving a rank of at least #31 Mythic with the deck.
You can also check out his video showing off some gameplay with the deck:
Bo1 Selesnya Landfall by ChrisB – #31 Mythic
Up next we have another best-of-one deck that tied Sonio at the #31 slot, a Selesnya Landfall deck posted by Magic Pro League member Chris Botelho. Midrange Landfall decks featuring cards like Felidar Retreat and Wrenn and Seven have shown up in Standard from time to time since back when Zendikar Rising was printed, but this deck is notable for including Fearless Fledgling, an odd pseudo- Ajani's Pridemate for land, and the new Kodama of the West Tree from Neon Dynasty.
Combine Felidar Retreat and the Fledgling with cards like Esika's Chariot and Emergent Sequence and you end up with an aggressive tokens deck that also plays with the Modified mechanic, using +1/+1 counters to pump the team. Chris also has a video featuring this deck you can check out:
Jeskai Hinata by bluecolor_only – #36 Mythic
Our final spotlight in Standard for this week is an example of a deck that has been sweeping through Standard since Neon Dynasty’s release: Jeskai Hinata/Magma Opus. This deck plays a tempo-style gameplan that has a lot in common with the Izzet (and sometimes Jeskai) Dragon decks of the previous Standard format.
The biggest difference is the addition of Hinata, Dawn-Crowned and Magma Opus, which, in combination, allows the splashy top-end instant to be cast for as little as just two mana with six targets. On top of the potent cost reduction effect Hinata provides while on the field, it’s is also a 4/4 flying trampler for 4 – not a terrible rate, and it plays well with Goldspan Dragon and the protection effects like Valorous Stance that those decks already sometimes wanted to run.
That’s all for our Standard showcase this week – you can find the full list of decks below. Up next, we’ll check out a couple of the mostly highly ranked decks from Historic.
Historic Top Mythic Decks of the Week
Azorius Lotus Field by Gianluca95 – #49 Mythic
In Historic, control decks that abuse the Core Set 2020 land Lotus Field have proven to be a legitimate archetype in the format. The land, which can tap for three mana of any color, synergizes extremely well with other cards that are already played in other control decks like Teferi, Hero of Dominaria and Archmage's Charm.
This build of the deck was shared with us on Twitter by user Gianluca_95, who reached the rank of Mythic #49:
Azorius Control by Galopin – #62 Mythic
Our second Historic spotlight is also an Azorius Control deck that has many cards in common with the previous deck. However, this version, posted by French grinder and regular contributor Galopin, foregoes the Lotus Field strategy entirely and plays a more traditional Historic control game.
You can browse other Historic decks from last week below, but for now, let’s move on to our decks that managed to reach #1 Mythic in Alchemy.
Alchemy #1 Mythic Decks of the Week
Rakdos Sacrifice by TheNerdySteve – #1 Mythic
A card that has been gaining a fair amount of attention since the release of Neon Dynasty is Oni-Cult Anvil. It’s been compared to the combination of Witch's Oven and Cauldron Familiar for its similar sac/drain effect, and we’ve been seeing decks cropping up in both Standard and Alchemy featuring the new artifact. Last week, streamer TheNerdySteve took his version of the deck all the way to the coveted #1 Mythic rank.
Anvil decks have been popular in Standard, but in Alchemy, they have also have access to the digital-only card Sanguine Brushstroke. Not only does Brushstroke create a Blood Artist which can obviously do a lot of work in a sacrifice shell, but it also comes with a Blood artifact token that can be sacrificed to the Anvil. Other Vampire cards that generate Blood help to push extra damage and make sure that you never run out of artifacts to sacrifice.
Izzet Control by Tian Fa Mun – #1 Mythic
Last but not least, we have an Izzet Control deck that Tian Fa Mun was also able to use to achieve #1 Mythic in Alchemy. The deck is very similar to the Alrund's Epiphany combo decks that dominated Standard to the point where the card was banned in that format and nerfed in Alchemy. This deck doesn’t bother with the nerfed extra turn spell, but it still contains many of the same cards, including both Unexpected Windfall and Galvanic Iteration.
In the place of Epiphany, Tian Fan Mun is instead running four copies of Magma Opus, the same top-end spell that powers the Jeskai Hinata decks. This deck is also notable for including three copies of the new legendary dragon Atsushi, the Blazing Sky instead of Goldspan Dragon which is often played in similar lists.
This column is our weekly roundup of Standard, Historic, and Alchemy decks players are using to climb the ranked ladder on MTG Arena! Our goal is to curate and post a variety of deck archetypes and interesting card choices at the end of each week to help you keep up to date with the latest trends in the metagame.
