Themes and Mechanics
As is the tradition of the Core Sets, we have five planeswalkers, one in each color. We have the return of familiar characters Teferi, Liliana, Chandra and a non-cursed Garruk and the introduction of Basri Ket.
A feature of a Core Set is what cards will be making their return. In 2021, we have powerful and long awaited reprints such as Ugin, Grim Tutor and Azusa.
At long last, abilities that put the top X cards of the graveyard now officially becomes a keyword mechanic called “mill”, which originates from the card Millstone. This term has been used almost universally by Magic players for a long time, and is a popular gameplay mechanic as it provides an alternate win condition or provides ways to use the graveyard as another resource.
Prowess makes its return in a Core Set as an evergreen ability: Whenever you cast a noncreature spell, the creature gets +1/+1 until end of turn.
Phasing is an ability that is more than 20 years old! It pretends the phased out creature does not exist, unlike exiling where it changes zones. You treat it and anything attached to it as though they don’t exist until its controller’s next turn.
Dog and Cat Tribal
With Core Set 2021, the creature type “Hound” is being officially changed to “Dog”. We will also have cards to support them!
Core Sets are packed with legendary characters, lore and history from the multiverse.
Two preorder bundles are available for $49.99 USD each, and if you purchase both you receive a Darius Osworth Gerhardt IV pet as a bonus.
